Fuel Cell Capacity

Hi all,

Currently building my 1st gen up to race in a few different series here. I was wondering what some of you racers selected for your fuel cell capacity? I'm hearing 15 US gallons floating around very often, but the longest race I'd be entering is 45 minutes and most people on these threads are running sanctioned sideports. Would 15 gallons be enough for a longer race with a 13b PP? Unfortunately I haven't gotten the car on track to measure the current MPG yet, so looking for some average numbers here.

Many thanks,
Jack

You should be good with a 14 but I’d caution you to know what the real capacity will be. I work with an endurance team that has Radium 14 gallon cells in their cars. With the built in surface tank, lift pump, pressure pump, level sensor, and foam, the actual capacity is closer to 12.5 gallons.

I can’t remember what mpg we used to get with our ITS car. I ran a 22 gallon cells because I got a good deal on it. The extra capacity did allow me to have the car under legal weight dry and work out how much fuel we needed to finish a race with to make weight. This gave me a tool to compensate for different scales at different tracks.
