That's probably why I never hear of it.

I don't know about NASA but EMRA (the club I race with) allows a car sold with ABS to retain ABS but you may not add ABS. It's not real clear if that means the individual car or the model of car. I also think update/backdate is not allowed for ABS at EMRA.

In the various GT style sanctioning bodies, is the ABS limited to what the manufacturer supplied? Are there better and worse ABS systems? Can ABS performance be enhanced?

Various racers have told me that ABS is very helpful in damp or variable traction situations. Not so much for outbraking but to save damage to the unloaded tire.

Sorry to resurrect this thread like this, but if you ever did have to upgrade the fronts past what you could do with better rotors and pads, what would you go with?

Ive heard of some 13" rotor setup with 6 pot pads but its kinda pricey, and I forgot where to source it. Anyone know what would be a good option for a seriously raced FC thats going past what its front brakes are capable of?

Endless, but I cant remember if you can get the FC brakes with their 6 piston caliper. Either way, I really doubt you would need it. The 330mm rotors on the endless 4pot caliper would be more than enough for most cars/drivers. For a rear upgrade, you could look into corksports 99spec conversion kit.

Somehow I doubt youd never need upgraded rears unless you had some serious DF on the rear or extremely stiff front suspension, lol.

Could you tell me more about the endless 4pot/330mm setup?

All the rear brake kit is is an adapter to run the 99spec rotors on stock calipers. Just running the larger rotor would be nice, especially if you had a bias controller... I doubt you could overheat them very easily.

Oh. Coudlnt hurt, but I doubt Id need it as the harder you brake the more the car will transfer weight forwards... :P

Im much more interested in front brake upgrades though, just making sure I know what my options are on down the line.

Also, check out www.precisionbrakes.com , I will probably be going with their front kit, namely because it is like 1/3 the cost of most other brake kits.

I wasnt aware they made a FC brake kit... all I See is a rear kit for GenIII RX-7 (FD?) and a front/rear kit for the RX-8.

Is it simply not listed? lol.

Youre looking at the "new" kits... you need to find the PDF file with all of them.

If you don't slow down you do not need big brakes

If you don't need to slow down for corners, your car sucks. At least I know this is not true for your car, Carl.

I always thought it was because you don't have enough power?

Exactly. It is a lot easier to build a car where straight-line performance far exceeds cornering performance, than the opposite. That said, if you do not need to brake for corners, your car is too slow.

It also depends on the track... obviously.

Im building a street/HPDE/autox RX-7 with a LS1, or a LT1/SBC/302/whatever if I get a good enough deal to offset the performance defecit with mods. Power will be the last thing I'll lack. I know the stock fronts are sufficient for autox or street stuff, unless I street race like a moron.. which I dont plan on doing, but I do want to be able to hit up a HPDE without fading or catching the pads on fire. So, Ill probably do a brake upgrade before that.

The other thing is Im not exactly keen on stripping it out, so at 2800 lbs weight or so (+180 lbs of myself) Id be harder on the brakes than Carls car which is lighter... right? That, and Im also not going to assume Im as good a driver as him, either, which means Im more likely to be harder on the brakes, still. I dont wanna get meatballed for flaming brake pads or have to exit the track because Ive toasted my brakes!

That and $1,400 for some 325 mm rotors and good calipers isnt a horrible deal, now is it?

I am actually experimenting with a variety of high end OEM calipers like the Viper set-up. These can be had for ~250.00 a caliper. With a deep enough hat my 16" wheels clear a 13.5" disc, and a Supra caliper, I am working on some even larger combos for a 16" wheel. Carl

How would you mount that stuff to a FC, though? Youd need to fab up brackets, right?

Would you be willing to share some plans?
