Custom radiator source?

Does anyone have a suggestion for a vendor to build a custom radiator?

I hesitate to just ring up Fluidyne or C&R, because I'm afraid the project won't really get any attention. I can provide detailed digital illustrations, so don't feel like it should be an 8 week lead time and $1200.

Thanks!

Start with your local phone book. Custom radiator shops are actually pretty numerous.

I'd like somebody that someone can vouch for, and that I know will source things like the core from a reputable source like fluidyne, C&R, etc... I don't trust any jackass off the street. That has 6 month project and headaches written all over it.

Rather than walk in and deal with someone face to face you'd rather get on the phone to someone far away? A shop who builds radiators far away is still a custom radiator shop, they're just far away!

I don't care if they are next door, in fact i'd prefer it... but I'd rather have a recommendation of good quality service and know-how over geographic convenience, that's all.

I've had this guy build 3 radiators for me. Never had a problem with any of them. He can build anything you can draw. He also build the fuel surge tank for my last race car. Good guy, answers all your questions, can't say enough good things.

We have had Griffin build us a custom radiator for a '34 Ford. Because of the blower drive, the radiator needed to be pushed forwards two inches so a standard radiator wouldn't fit. We shipped them the existing radiator and told them what changes needed made, and a few weeks later we got a shiny new aluminum radiator that fit perfectly.

I think it ran $700 all told. It was several years ago, though.

Do you know what dimensions you will need? It is entirely possible that an off-the-shelf unit may work out for you, at a substantial savings.

Ron Davis wasn't very friendly, and quoted me an 8-12 week lead time and $1-$1.2k pricetag. Yeah.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish if you don't mind me asking?

i've got a custom V-mount about 80% designed. Once I run my last event for the year next friday, I'll pull the car apart and make a foam dummy. Once that's done, I don't feel like waiting 2-3 months to put it back together... but at the same time, i'm not going to spend the time prototyping it if it's going to be too difficult to get it built.... hence my need to contact fabricators now for estimates.

Peter,

I've been doing some research on that also. Would you mind asking about a second?

I'd be glad to. What I'm working on is closely related to the Knightsports product, and will use a 70mm core, 4-pass, and if all goes well will be the entire width between the frame rails and mount very simply and be sealed to the bumper opening. I'm going for simplicity, so hence not wanting to coble-up an existing radiator.

i've got to get the car up and check clearances to see if I need to scrap the factory fans or undertray. I know the KS doesn't do either, So I'm hoping I won't have to.\

I'm going to design the IC portion to be fully sealed and use the CWR CF intake as a structural element, but that won't affect the radiator design. I also will not be using A/C, but I'm thinking it could be fitted using A/C flex line that aeroquip sells.

Also, I'm still in the "working on it" stage... so there's every chance that i say screw it and just get a bigger stock mount!

I hear Griffin is good. I have been tempted before to have an IC core made, and I still might.
