CSP solo II questions

I am getting back into autocrossing and I'm not sure if I'm really CSP legal with my GSL-SE. Some of my interior (rear carpet, padding, storage bins) is missing. Does this bump me into Modified? If I do go into modified, which class would I be in? SM?

I am not competitive and am just out there to have fun, I just don't want anyone complaining about me running out of class.

Would I still be in SM when I swap in a ported engine? SM2?

I can only speak for our region, you would be fine in CSP until you win. After you win, someone would complain....hehe. You would then, I think, get bumped to F-prepared. I dont think you should have any problems running CSP.

nah, taking out the interior is perfectly legal in CSP.

CSP is pretty open as long as you don't do anything to the internals of the engine (i.e porting, then you go to I think FP)

You can chane out the suspension as long as it uses the stock mounting locations, change wheels/ tires as desired, open on exhaust, open on intakes. you can't change the body work though...

Those are the highlights.

Hey gslse,
I thought you had to have the factory interior??? I got in trouble for taking my storage bins out at a Pro Solo race??

Can you run in SM with a ported RX?

Oh yah, I know you can change out the seats.

I'm pretty sure you don't... I've seen several cars here run SP which are pretty much full out race cars. I know locally no one is going to complain, but I doubt that they would have gone to the trouble of painting everything on if they were not actually legal fo rthe class... I have the rule CD here.. I'm pretty sure I can dig up the offical ruling. (although, it's a bastard because you cannot copy &paste or print from it.)

Thanks for the info. I don't even want to get complaints from the locals, I'd rather just go up a few classes and take a beating.

So as long as I'm losing, I can run my (very near future) bridgeport in CSP?

bridgeport? ha! no way.... I think they'll notice that. Then you'll be in FP with 1st7Heaven here....

That counts as an intern change...

i'm not 100% positive, but i do not believe you can do any gratuitous gutting in csp. again, i'm not positive. when i was going to gut my '90 to run in CSP, i was told it essentially had to be SCCA ITS legal. if you're just having fun and not winning, no one will care. but if you want to be competitive and do start winning, get ready for the hammer. =) get a rule book. if i can find my solo II rulebook, i'll let you know

frazer is right. To be CSP legal you have to keep the interior intact. But then again if your not winning and nobody cares you can probably get away with it. But don't complain when someone does say something because it is not legal in any SP class unless you run an IT setup. Check with everyone in your class at your next event. Most autocrossers don't mind especially if you ask first.

Thanks for the information.
So I would be in FP with a ported engine and modified interior?

What is the real ruling on battery relocation? I read that it can't go inside the passenger compartment. My battery currently lives in a battery box where the passenger side storage bin was. I guess I should ask tech next time, they haven't said anything about it.

I just want to be semi-legal in case I run an out of town event.

When I was running CSP in the early to mid 90s, you could relocate the battery in a box behind the passanger seat, you could replace the passanger seat with another seat of any type as long as a passanger could actually ride in it....(the reason for that, we tried getting away with bike seats!!!), and lastly you had to have a car stereo..did not have to be stock or even functional but had to have one.

Those are the only things that you could do as far as taking out or changing.

Oh yah, you could take out your sun roof.

Any porting will throw you into FP, any gutting will throw you in FP.

Now, I ran a 13b four port in my car until I started winning then I got protested........the 4 port 13b never came in the 1st gen!!!!!! I had to switch over to a 6port.

Had to have a stereo? That's BS. I can think of plenty of cars that don't have stereos from the factory.

You couldnt get a RX7, 79-85, in America, with out a car stereo. You had to have a stereo....try going to a pro solo, divisional, or nationals in CSP with out a stereo...you will be instantly DSQed if you are in the top 3 to 5 cars!!! Locally.....you are probably ok. Believe me, I have done it.
