Notice I took a half step back when it started? That thing was violent when it came to life!
Phil, nothing yet! I replaced the rotary Porsche with a 964 Turbo EFI conversion with a GT35R turbo. I have actually been thinking about buying one of the older flyin miata turbo cars. Cheap buy, cheap to maintain, lots of fun.
I do miss the rotary, though. If the right car came along, I'd probably buy it. Hey, maybe Matt Oehler will sell me his canadian VR single turbo car. Matt?
I don't think I have any plans on Saturday. Sure, I'll make the trip over - can I be on your "pit crew"?
What will you be running this time??

Saw this car raced both in Phoenix and LaJolla back in the waning days of IMSA (either '93 or '94). It was in its first year of development, so it was not yet a contender with the Nissans or Chevys or Eagles (Dan Guerney) liveried back then. In fact, it burned up the rear body work in its first outing due to proximity w/ the exhaust. Beautiful car on the track and an awesome exhaust note at full song. I was really waiting for that "next year". But it never happened--Mazda pulled the plug on GTP the end of that season, and IMSA folded completely after the folllowing season. The video reminds me of standing at the fence at the starting grid when they gave the command to start engines. Price Cobb was the driver of the car back then.
By the way, I was the envy of the parking lot back then as I pulled-out in my spanking new Montego Blue 3rd Gen.

Get - great story! It's hard to believe it's been 18 years since the FD was launched. I remember what a buzz they created with gearheads when they were new. Similar to the Lotus Elise today.
By the way, spoke to Rick after the video about the ECU on the car. He mentioned tuning it involved programming in a computer code and burning a chip. Forget tuning on the fly. We've got it made with all the options we have now!!
