[Autox] A-Mod Phantom

Welp, since the season is about to begin (and prolly started already in the warmer places), I'll do some PR for our club.

We had the Phantom (designed and originated up here but sold to someone else at the 2003 Nationals) experience first hand for a while. So I'd like to post a link to our PR guy's blurb on it. http://www.vwdov.ca/forum/showthread...threadid=63375

In the coming year, a newly designed A-Mod contender (nicknamed The Vancouver Special) will be competing and hopefully defending its title from 2003. They didn't complete it in time for 2004. I'll post some pix once we get our first complete sighting of it. At the moment, Joe and Gary (the builders/racers) are wishing to keep prying eyes away until it's been sorted.

In the meantime, here's an older promo vid:

Quicktime (7.52mb): http://www.vcmc.ca/videos/ballisticarts-vcmc.mov

Windows Media (3.27mb): http://www.vcmc.ca/videos/ballisticarts-vcmc.wmv

Can't wait to start running again.

Cheers...

Our first event is this Sunday. Mounted tires last weekend and aligning today.

I haven't seen that car in person but know of it. Gary Kramer from our local region won F-Mod a few years ago and now runs A-Mod. No match for that winged beast though

I was once offered a drive of the Phantom when I was still in my rookie years in autox, but I was affraid that I might wracked it, so I kindly denied Joe's offer. Everytime I think back on it, you have no idea how many time I kick myself:"I am such a stupid fool.....#$%&....uaHHHHHH"

Nice video. Is the Phantom the same car that Steve O'Blenes bought? He used to have a really nice 2nd Gen.

Hehe, I got to see the new car in Gary's shop! He was gracious enough to let some of the UBC Formula SAE team members (me included) come by his shop on a weekend last year to see the car and talk shop. He's a nice guy and very smart, and was willing to give up several hour of his time to let some university students poke around his shop and take pictures (no I don't have any). I don't want to say too much but it's one hell of a car and it has many advances compared to the Phantom. Hopefully they'll be out competing this year, I know they've done testing allready.

I heard through the rumor mill it's a full ground effects car, using fans to evacuate air from underneath the car to increase the ground effects. Maybe someone who has seen the car...can confirm.

As far as I'm aware that's just a rumour.

I have no idea if it's true but as well developed as the last car was a "sucker" car would be a logical step forward...

There was a sucker car before, iirc. it whooped the next guy in a-mod by 2-3 seconds...so it was banned from then on. the phantom is a flat bottom car. one of the Bowland car's in 2002 did run skirting but they had a friend chat and willingly removed it prior to competition.

the new car's mechanics are quite a bit more advanced than the phantom. the last time i saw the new car run, they were fighting with the Haltech but i hear it's long been fixed. so we'll see how it goes.

You UBC guys have been running the Zola while the Special is in R&D...doing well. it'll be fun to see 2 cars in A-mod.

and the Phantom is not what O'Blenes is piloting. Dan Wasdahl purchased the car after the 2k2 (or was it 2k3) Nationals.
