XS Tuning Scam???? or not.
What exactly does XS Engineering adjust when tuning for the mods that are shown below. Because I took in my 7 for a tuning and all they did was lower the injection levels like in the first few spaces of the injection map. Maybe 20 slots were changed at the most. Now , first of all, with the opening of the exhaust and intake, wouldn't the engine be running a little leaner, requiring you to higher the injection? And, secondly, isn't there some adjusting of ignition timing involved. I mean for 150 bucks, isn't that kinda steep for adjusting 20 injection slots????
I don't know, I guess I could be wrong, but sheeeesh.
Is it really worth it???

You crack me up. No offense, but, when you get out of the hospital after surgery, do you simply look at the size of the scar and question why it cost so much to make the incision? I suspect you talk to the surgeon before you go under the knife.
XS actually changes a buttload of the settings for fuel, timing, and other controls. After looking at some XS maps I can only figure that they add fuel hear and take fuel out there and then add back fuel somewhere else and the take a bit out over there so that noone can steal their maps (until the datalogit came out that is). With the Commander, you can see the timing maps they use but you cannot see the timing adjustments they make that are functions of temps, etc. These are minor however and don't affect the maps much. I cannot say the same for fuel.

sorry guys...took my ecu to xs today and had it retuned...they kindly did it for free to correct the problem (it arrived untuned from the rx7 store).
troy was very very helpful and gave me the time I needed.
however...now that it was tuned to my mods the car runs worse...haha
it really does...the idle is going nuts...the car sputters and chugs.....yesterday it was running about as fast as a stock c5 from doing tuning myself with the help of rotary reliability. It feels like the timing is way off...too much or too little fuel...I have no idea what they did.
eric was helpful on the phone though..Ill try to get it back to him to see if he can help fix the issue.
The other person I dealt with was a pain in the ***. I wont mention any names but he would NOT listen and did not help me at all.

Actually, the timing maps were allexactly the same. And The dude said he did all the tuning on the commander. He also went on that I needed a crap load of work done to it and the car isn't safe. One thing was a leaky fuel rail, which I checked on myself and then had my mechanic check on a second time. And no leak. Not even a hint of gasoline smell in the engine bay. That's what made me think twice about XS. Maybe it's just the one out in Orange County, CA. The last time I called them there phone had been disconnected. I don't know. Or maybe it's just me. As far as my 44 posts go. Maybe it's just because I usually figure things out on my own or I find it in search. So I try not to post unless I really have to. Plus I'm proud of my 44 little posts, thank you very much!!!

93R1, I've never heard of XS programming through the commander. They are one of the only tuners in the U.S. to have and know how to program with the actual Apexi Power Xcel software. Your mods are very very similar to the base maps, the only difference I see is the midpipe. Who at XS tuned your car? When did you have it done? Do you have a receipt? They have since moved to Huntington Beach, and have not set up their dyno yet. Please post some more information.
thanks,
eric
