The is the infamous fan mod box that was part of the overheating recall. Of course you need to keep it installed as it helps control the fans, and you need it if you want to install a fan mod switch to keep the fans running 10 minutes past shutdown.

Cool deal. I left it in on the advice of another member, and everything's cool now. I let the car run for a bit, and took it out on the road for ~30 miles, and now it's running quite smoothly. I'm gonna stay off of the higher boost preset until I'm confident the lower one is safe.

Keep in mind that you're already running higher boost than stock, at about 11.4 psi, with the lower preset. What's your boost gauge showing?

When running it on the freeway last night a short run in 4th at probably 85% throttle was showing me at ~10lbs. I'm still scare to go all the way to WOT yet. I know I'm proabably safe, but I'd like to test the waters first. I'll be going on a semi long drive today, so I should be able to test it out a bit more. I'd expect that on the lower boost preset I'll probably be at ~12 at WOT, but if it looks wierd, I'll back off. My boost gauge has the warning light set at 13lbs, so if that goes off that's another good indicator for me to chill on the boostiness. After some time and comfort on the lower level I'll probably switch to the higher preset and will see how that feels.

Also, is there any fuel economy advantage to lowering boost levels at all? Not that I really care, but it'd be neat to know.

I took the FD out for the drive on Sunday and did some WOT runs on the freeway. The boost gauge showed me coming to *almost* 11psi, which corresponds to what the PFC's low boost preset is (10.8, i think). I'm still going to hang out on the lower preset for a little longer before I try out the higher one.

The car already feels like it pulls harder and everything is definitely a lot smoother. I'm really impressed with everything so far. I would like to get some more flow mods to lean it out a bit since my exhaust reeks. For whatever reason the smell reminds me of brakes or clutch or something. Anyone else notice this? It's not all the time, only after a full throttle run.
