Sorry for the newb question, looked through a few pages of threads but couldn't find any hints.

WIN8 laptop, black Datalogit. Datalogit bolted to Turbojeffs new PFC kickpanel mount. Serial to USB adapter attached directly to Datalogit. Using a Type A to A USB extension cable to get from the kickpanel to the laptop. Laptop will not initialize the PFC when using Autodetect. There is a red LED on, presumably from the Datalogit.

Any ideas?

On my system I had to install/uninstall and reinstall the software for the Seral adapted cable a few times before it worked.

 

Thanks for the replies. Didn't have time to pull the adapter out yet to look up what it is and if I need a special driver. I just plugged it in and assumed because it was USB it would just work.

 

I disconnected the Digitus USB Serial adapter that was directly connected to the datalogit. Put it directly in the PC USB port, I had used a USB extension cable before. Checked my PC, downloaded the correct drivers, but device manager said the adapter was working correctly. I plugged in the serial cable from the adapter down to the datalogit and was successfully able to read the map off of the PFC, I think.

So it may be that the adapter I have won't work through a USB extension, so I will not be able to leave it attached to the datalogit directly. I may consider getting one of these other cables in the future if I start to use the datalogit more frequently.

 

is it the serial adapter that came with the dataloggit?

if its not, you may have to get a new one. don't buy an ebay brand, get a good one. pay at least 30$

 

I bought the datalogit 2nd hand on the forum, its the USB that the person sent with it. It works, just not quite the way I wanted it to. I still have to pull the panel in order to connect a serial cable first.

 

If you haven't sent an email yet to get yourself invited to the Datalogit Yahoo user group go ahead and do that. You will have access even though you bought it second hand. They just need the serial number off the Datalogit. It takes a week or so for them to process the requests. Once you do you can look thru the archives and read "how too's" that should get you straight.

There are procedures on how to add the serial to USB adapter driver manually. There should be a disk. If not I have one. But you should be able to get what you need including the adapter driver once you have Yahoo Group access. It's not the typical USB driver that every computer comes with.
