what comes with the stateside power FC?
all,
I Live in Japan, and just had a power FC installed in my 1st gen, it only came with the ecu, and the commander. I had to purchase all of the sensors (no problems there) but it did not come with any software to allow me to upload, download or modify my maps other than by the commander.
back ground: I have raced and tuned carbed NA rotaries for years, had several turbo cosmos that I paid to have the computer work done on. this is my first attempt at tuning a ecu myself. So i decided on the Apexi unit because it is user friendly (compared to Motec and FCON V pro).
The shop that installed the unit, preloaded maps sent from Apexi, then they did a quick street tune, are currently preparing it to go to the dyno for final tuning. my engine is currently bone stock.
eventually I will be bolting on a to4e, fuel pump FPR etc, and I would like to play with it myself, but the FC commander is not the easiest way to go, and am looking for information on where I can get the appropriate programs to make my laptop interface with the power FC.
the japanese shops are very stingy when it comes to sharing any kind of data as they don't want to empower their customers, so the support is not necessarily as good for this unit as it is in other countries.
any help would be appreciated

I have heard of the datalogit, but I didn't realize that it was a requirement (understood that it was extrememly beneficial though) I was under the impresion that the power FC came with a program and cable to start with, my bad.
also thanks for the web page, will research that area next.

2nd gen from a Kouki (S-5) I just picked up another core for 10,000 yen ($90.00) that has 15k km on a rebuild and am prepping it for the T04 and all the other goodies, the current one is stock so that I can get it legally inspected, and modded on the title, after that its anything goes
the japanese system makes you install and get gas certified all engine swaps that involve a different model engine, hence the stock one first and afterwords anything with 13B stamped is good, includeing mods, as long as it passes the idle sniffer test.

The PFC can come with two different maps: stock or mod. The Commander only allows changing of the basic maps in the PFC. The DATALOGIC allows changing more hidden maps and run time parameters. Read tuning sticky above. The DATALOGIC also allows data logging of all engine run time values except that a wideband O2/AFR sensor is also need to log AFRs. There are a few custom maps on the internet.
But most tuners here in the USA are also stingy!
