Question Should I use base map or tune?

Hello,

I currently have a cat back exhaust and am in the process of installing a Rotary Extreme intake (similar to M2's design) and hard intake pipes. My PFC is on its way and I have a M2 downpipe that will be installed at the same time as the PFC.

I've read conflicting info about the base map. At the first of the following links, it says the base map supports intake and cat back only (no cat removal). At Rx7 Store I've read the base map supports "air filter", catback, and downpipe which will be my configuration, assuming that by air filter they mean aftermarket intake. Here's where I'm getting the conflicting info:

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...postid=1273880 (read item #2 of 5)

http://www.rx7store.net (read product description of PFC under products > engine mgmt > power FC)

So given the conflicting info at the links above, what's the consensus on this forum... should I get my car professionally tuned or just plug it in for now. If I get it tuned, how much additional HP might I get over the base map? Might I risk running lean with the base map?

I'm wondering if the 3 hr drive to Rx7 Store's dyno will be time and money well spent.

Thanks,
Tony Alvarez

You are looking at old info. The current PFC 5.08 ships with the "base mod" map. This map is PLENTY rich for those mods. You will be safe to run the car as is for 10-11 psi of boost. Tuning will increase the drivability and will also get you some hp. FWIW, I just installed my PFC and it's obvious the map is too rich. Car runs pretty good though as is. I will do some tuning shortly. Mods in sig.

Thanks Rynberg. I'll probably just plug it in for now and not worry about tuning until I go with further mods such as intercooler, injectors, and highflow cat.
