Power FC for moderate mods (?s after searching)

I've searched and read a lot of the arguments for both the haltech and power fc. I've also read some of the complaints of tunability. Here are my questions.

When all is said and done, I'm looking at the following engine perf mods (put * by the ones I have when installing the powerfc)

fly. radiator*
streetported engine*
pettit CAI *
Downpipe *
3" exhaust*
PFS SMIC
Hiflow cat
seq turbos @ ~12-13psi* (to be Non seq turbos @ ~12-13psi)

when starting, will the base mod map work for me without tuning for decent performance, safety and mileage, or should I plan some dyno time?

For long run, will the power fc be good enough to extract ~330whp in combination with these mods?

Is the commander visible enough to watch as water temp and knock gauges if I install it in a good viewing position?

Thanks In Advance
Jeff

The base mods are certainly enough to keep you on the conservative side. If anything, you will be running too rich, not lean. The PFC, by example of alot of the guys on this forum, is good for much more than 330 rwhp. No concerns there. I have mine mounted so that I can monitor everything while driving. You can monitor one, two, four or eight channels at a time and there is a peak hold feature. Very helpful.

Just in case you weren't already aware, since I didn't read it in your do-to list, you are going to need to upgrade your fuel pump and secondary injectors if you plan on running above 13psi. Just keep that in mind when allocating your $$.

Thanks for the info.

Do you think that I will get decent mileage @ cruise if I'm running extra rich with the base mod map?

Also, Where did you mount yours?

I get about 16 mpg, but that's always with a few WOT street runs in there.

My fuel mileage hasn't suffered despite the rich tuning, so you'll be ok. I mounted mine with a cell phone-specific a/c mount. It clips onto the a/c vent and holds the Commander. When you need to use it, you can just lift it out of the holder. It works great and is easily viewable from the driver's seat. Thanks to SPOautos for the idea. Oh, and the holder costs $5 at Walmart.

Great, thanks, I'll look for one of those.

so it sounds like I won't have to buy a water temp gauge which is nice

I used a small piece of aluminum that I cut out of a sheet as a temporary mount that has lasted a month and half so far...

Piece was about 3 1/2 inches long and 1 1/4 inch wide. I bent it about 30 degrees and stuffed it in the crack between the console and the dash and it has stayed there pretty well!

Here is a pic of how it sits, perfect for viewing (and fiddling) while driving! Out of the way of passengers legs and high enough so I don't knock it when I release the e-brake.

That looks really good there, I think I'll do the same.

I'd add some fuel to be safe, Chuck Westbrook and I both found car cars ran too lean with the base maps and 12-13 psi of boost. Best thing to do is plan to spend some time with a wideband lambda.
