Power FC and Emissions

Just got back from DE state emissons, failed. My CO was 5.something when it needed to be 1.something...

I had just put the cat on and hooked up the air pump just before heading down. (don't know if the airpump needs to run through the cat for a bit or not to help it)

A friend suggested that it might be the rich base tune on the power FC which is what im running now.

Is it possible to safely lean it out from the commander just long enough for me to run through the inspection line? Do you think it would be able to lower the CO enough?

I passed MD emissions on a freshly installed muffler shop 3" cat (on a 3" exhaust) with the base map.

Make sure the engine and cat are completely warmed up before they put you on the rollers. Some full throttle passes on the highway should do it.

Also in your case I would make sure that O2 feedback is on.

You can safely lean out idle and cruise speeds and not ruin your engine. Only lean boost will ruin an engine. Many of us run AFrs in the 15-16.5 range for steady highway cruising.

Best to log the PFC while it is being tested. This will pinpoint the exact cells that need adjusting. I do this for my Texas dyno testing. Only for it do I run my cat with a specila map with leaner cells for the tests.

Make sure you Cat is good and hot, so it can burn the extra fuel. Do not shut the car off while in line waiting for your turn to test. If not yes lean it out but make sure the guy at the emissions place does not throttle it hard.

I was sitting in the DMV line with my car on for a good hour or so. At DE DMV's they don't get in your car and do the test they have you rev your car up to 2500. I just don't know exactly what needs to be done to lean it out. I'm not very good with the power FC yet so if anyone could give me help that would be greatly appreciated.

A simple and possibly sufficient way of doing it is to get on your commander and go to the diagnostic setting screen:

these changes will go away once you turn the car off. just don't boost the car after you lean it out, and having a wideband would help when you are messing with it. If your ACV is installed and working right then your AFRs should be very lean at idle because the air pump is diluting the exhaust right as it exits the exhaust ports.

Dry gas was my Plan B anyway. but it looks like i won't be needing it. I got a really cool guy at the DMV. He liked RX-7's and we got to talking, he noticed I was leaning out my car with my Power FC and let me test 4 times till we finally got the numbers low. My CO low was 0.01 and my high was 0.05 haha. Now I don't have to deal with it for two more years!!
