Power FC compared to Stock ECU

I am serously considering getting an apexi power fc and commander for my FD. I read on this forum that with the power fc you lose your air conditionning. Is this true? What other features, if any, are available in the stock ecu but not in the power fc?

Thanks.

False...its everything that the stock ECU has but alot better, but if u get it, i would advise a really good tuner to tune it for you, AKA Steven Kan...

But yes PFC all teh way!

Everyone wants Steven Kan to tune their Power FC, but that's not likely to happen. So, the PFC does not lose any stock functions of the stock ecu.

The power FC keeps your air conditioning. All you need to do is splice two wires toghether as shown on the harness. With my stock ECU and the Power FC was like night and day. No more 3k hesitation and much smoother all across the range. Also the commander shows everything you wish so infinite gauges are uneccessary.

Good luck,

Alex

The PFC does have some slight problems with the AC, but there are a few fixes for that. You should not have to use the AC too much were you are.

You do not need any tuner for mild mods if you are resourceful, mechanically intelligent, and can learn. Most of the stuff is already posted here. You will need a wideband O2 sensor and a DATALOGIT, and my notes.

Hahah... so true. But it's just nice to know these kind of things before you make the purchase.

I believe I do need a tuner. I havn't modified the engine but because of these mods: Greddy TD06SH single turbo, Greddy 2-Row FMIC, Koyo rad, and 1600cc secondaries, I believe proper tuning is required.

The AC is only an issue on some cars. My AC works 100% with the PowerFC on all fan speeds. Some only work on some speeds, some not at all - it's pot luck. The FAQ lists some of the fixes if you do have problems.

But, in general, you lose nothing with the PowerFC, just gain a helluva lot.

Your IC I would think doesn't have the volume and flow capacity to support your turbo's potential. With those mods you MOST DEFINITIVELY DO NEED IMMEDIATE TUNING. I wouldn't even run boost on your motor without tuning. BTW, I would just try to find 8 other people in your region that need tuning and you get Steve to come down to your place and tune your rides. That is what we did for our club, clubrxquebec and I beleive they did the same in Ontario last summer. Worst case scenario next summer get your ride to Quebec as we are having Steve over again for a tuning weekend.

Cheers,

Alex

Do I need to upgrade to the Greddy 3-Row FMIC with the Greddy TD06SH turbo?

It's not possible for me to get my car to Quebec, that's about a 2 day drive to get there. There's places around here that can do good jobs, although not as good as Steve.

The 2 row is fine for the Greddy TD06SH . You can purchase a map from Steve or others and then have the car tuned locally by yourself or others.
