Plug in and go

I haven't found the exact question im asking using search. I have a 100% currently stock 1993 FD touring. I just bought a PFC and was wondering if i could run it off the default base map? You know just plug and play. Or If i want to use the PFC period does it have to be taken to a tuner? In my closet I have a greddy smic, apexi intake, and was planning to get a jdm dp and delete the main cat with a straight pipe to my mazdaspeed catback. Could i drive to the tuner with all these parts on? Or would i have to install them there? Im not looking to gain a single hp. Im doing these mods as reliablity and helping the engine last longer mods....

You are going to gain hp with each one of those mods, read this thread https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...added-1104322/

The PFC has a base map that is pretty good, not perfect as you will find in that thread. Don’t remove the main cat unless you port the wastegate.

You also can not just plug the PFC in, there are 4 wires that need to be removed, read this thread https://www.rx7club.com/power-fc-for...esher-1130055/

If the purpose is reliability then just do the downpipe and intercooler, leave the main cat, and run it through your cat back. You'd be fine driving on the base map after you let it idle learn (make sure you reset the map if it's used) just don't go crazy on the throttle. If you don't want to snip your main harness or remove pins, banzai sells the harness adapter where you can snip that instead.

The base map IGL (leading timing is very safe) but the IGT (trailing timing) is all messed up.
When I made 350 whp on the stock twins with many mods I ran more timing than the base map. It is more applicable for porting or a single turbo.
IGT determines timing split. The base map has split jumping all around. At high boost it has spots where it is too low.
At lease find someone with a DATALOGIT and fix the split at minimum.

Do those wires still need to be cut/removed if all of the emissions items have been removed?

How does one reset to the base map? I see PFC's for half the price of new in the classifieds all day long, so that is enticing.

Using the commander ..

ETC (NEXT)
ALL DATA INITIALIZE (NEXT)
ARE YOU SURE? (NEXT)

Then turn the key to the OFF position, then back to ACC. You have to let the car do a 30 minute idle learn, and you should also verify your idle bleed screw is at the right setting, start with it all the way in then backed off 1/2 turn. A nice guide to this is available at banzai racing.

Ok so just to be 1000% sure what im understanding. Is disconnect 4 said wires from harness for emissions equipment. Set idle screw. Plug in and mount PFC. Reset PFC then Its ok to install knight sports DP, trust/greddy SMIC, autoexe intake, Mazdaspeed catback, leave main Cat, supra TT fuel pump then fire up the PFC. Learn idle procedure and im safe to drive around or at least drive from san diego to La where the tuners are?

also what injectors should i go with. Stock is ok?

i know ill gain power with each mod but im trying to only help the motor breath and cool. Longevity is the goal not high power. But is a bonus i guess.

Ok i have done a little more reading and contacted a local rotary tuner here in socal. He said the base map using was a bad idea.......what ill do is stock ECU, DP, catback, SMIC, supra fuel pump and enjoy the car now. Its 800 to do a tune. So i will save up for that, A ffe fuel system, A bonez cat and the amount to rent a truck and trailer to tow my car from san diego to la area lol. So pretty much looking at 5 years before i can get this car running at its finest lol.

The PFC base map is better than the stock ECU, that was shown in the thread that I already linked you to.

I have read that thread multiple times. Im just not 100% sure what to do. Im scared the motor will blow if i even look at it lol. I just want it to run as cool and as efficient as possible before the summer comes. Ok so based off this thread i will, disable emissions, install DP, PFC, SMIC and will run it. Keep boost on the PFC at ilthe lowest setting i can. Ok thank you banzai for you contribution to the threads and also helping me out. I just want this motor to get to 100,000 miles or keep running until i can get a garage and pull the motor.
