PFC and oil metering pump - Spyfish question

I noticed your post over on the supra forum were they were talking about the AEM unit coming out and comparing it to the PFC. You stated that the PFC only opens the OMP half way. I was wondering where you got that information at?

if true then I'm glad I always premix a little at every fill up, but that's the first time I've ever heard of it.

Hi Tim:

Do this for me ... take a drive around and put the commander on the etc->Sensor and look at the voltage for MOP and tell me what it says as you drive around. Take some notes about the engine conditions (i.e. throttle position, boost, rpm, etc).

damn, you mean I'm going to have to bust out my FD on a week day Crap I guess I will if I have to. I'll try to get some notes on it tomorrow when I go X-mas shopping. That's obviously using that as an excuse since we all know you can't put anything in the trunk.

Hey don't complain! I didn't even have the hatch area with my previous audio setup ... I finally couldn't take it anymore and I am reconfiguring it .... it will be done in Jan and I'll have a hatch area to boot!

Let me know what you find.

Yea, I can back that up. His hatch area way basically a giant speaker box and amp. lol probably helped with traction issues though!!!!

I got the FD out today and had a blast. Some guy in a early 90's t-bird tries to race me twice after I just roll by him doing 60 mph. I think he just wanted to see what the car can do since he was smiling when I slowed down and he caught up to me and passed me after the 2nd time I starved his engine of air when I went by him rather quickly.

On to the OMP issue, at idle it shows 1.25V. Cruising at 62ish, shows 1.3 to 1.5 depending on load going up hills ect. 3rd gear WOT, 6000 rpms, 3.7V I never looked when I was in 4th gear WOT, not that dumb to look at the commander when reaching those speeds. I'd assume it would be in the low 4.0V range. I'll have to get a friend to ride with me next time.

I left my service manual out in the rain so the normally 2 inch green book is now about 3.5inches wide so I don't have it handy to lookat the voltage of the OMP, Spyfish, what does the voltages mean since I don't have mine handy?

On a related note, I back by duty cycles down since the weather is a little cooler. I had been hitting .94ish when I was hitting .84 consistently in the warmer air, with the duty cycle numbers lowered, I was back to .84 in the cooler air. Also my injector duty cycles (94%)dropped as well eventhough I was in the same pressure cells (P17) through my 4th gear run. Putting in the 1300 cc secondaries soon so it should be lower still. O2 sensor voltage was a steady .93 .95 through the 4th gear run...SWEET. tweak the fuel maps just a tad more and .9, my target number will be met.

Manual says that at idle you are to get approx. 1.1V. Looks like when accelerating/deccelerating you might get up to 4.2V and it should return to approx. 1.1V.

Sounds like the PFC is operating the metering pump within spec.

Interesting results Tim. Looks like it is working 100% for you. Mine didn't and I talked with someone else who's didn't. I wonder if it is a PowerFC generation thing or if just bad OMP. I'd say it works then ... I figured with two people seeing the same thing it was true-I guess I shouldn't have assumed. The OMP should do exactly what the throttle sensor does just for future reference.

Oh yeah, Tim please get your car on a dyno. I'd hate to see you blow the engine tuning with the stock O2.

Tell me about it. Even when I had the old PFS PMC, trying to get it tuned was a pain in the ***. Fun playing on the interstate while you do it, but none the less, using the O2 sensor back then was all most people had to work with. It seems in the past couple of years, chassis dynos are becoming more common and with that, wideband readings will help tune the car. Use the O2 to just ball park it...like me in the .9 range. Then go to the dyno and tune it further.

Thanks for the assist on what the OMP voltages mean, I still can't find my swollen manual my wife put somewhere.

I run the royal purple 2 stroke oil as my premix of choice. If I run out before I can get some more I have some Exxon Superflow 2 stroke I use. As far as how much, I don't really measure other than I pour it in until it fills up to but doesn't spill over onto the black car paint that could run down on to the side of the car. So pour it quickly until it fills up then drains itself down. Then pump the 93 octane with octane booster. It's not my daily driver, only about 1500 miles this year but every mile put a big grin on my face
