Power FC Need map for street ported, twin seq setup
Need map for street ported, twin seq setup
Hello!
Recently had my car at a local shop for mapping and I'm very dissatisfied with the results after comparing before and after in FC-Edit. So I'm looking for someone who can help me come up with a better base map than what I have today and which I can continue to tune on my own. Would also like some notes on my existing map and I want to file a complaint with the shop to see if I can get some money in return.
My main problem with the car is that it gets hot. Very hot! I don't get it, the other FDs that I meet are not close to my temps, both of and on the tracks. Had a friend look at the map and he commented that it has very aggressive ignition timings, could this be a source of heat generation?
I'm still running the original -92 spec front and hood, many have commented that a new front and possibly an open carbon hood would help a lot, but I think it should be possible to get improvements by fixing my map.
Specifications:
PLX Wideband, Power FC, FC-Datalogit
1992 FD 13B Streetport, Original Twin Sequential Turbos
3" downpipe, midpipe and catback (not sure what size)
Airpump removed, A/C removed, block-off kit installed.
NGT spark plugs (9)
Greddy FMIC, KOYO Radiator
ATC Clutch and Flywheel
And some other modifications...
At the shop I recorded 277 rhwp with 1,5 year old spark plugs. The shop mentioned there was ignition problems above 7000 RPM (obviously the spark plgus I'm sure, but I'm planning on buying HKS Twin Power). I'm no mechanic and half of the time (most of the time) I don't know what I'm doing on the car, but I learn new things all the time. Before my last track race (last weekend) I changed brake fluid, brake pads, oil and spark plugs :-)
Who's the best mappers on the forum?

Just realized that my signature contains most of my mods, I forgot the obvious of APEXi intakes :-)
Here is some screenshots of the compare mode in FC-Edit before and after the mapping:

I wouldn't necessarily blame the tuner if your car has other little issues going on. Your tuner adjusted the fuel (leaned it out right? did he do a recalc?) and smoothed out the ignition curve some, especially the split. For your level of mods that's not surprising. He may have also adjusted some driveability settings as well. The fact that he had to lean it out (or at least, it looks like it to me) indicates that you can't be flowing that much air anyway for whatever reason. When I was tuning an FD with stock twins and a number of other mods, we had to richen up the map due to increased engine efficiency from the mods.
I would check for a mechanical cooling problem first (radiator blockage, thermostat, airflow to radiator) and get that sorted out. Then test for boost leaks, then get the supporting mods you need (secondary injectors, fuel pump) to crank the boost up to 12-14psi depending on your octane level etc. And you know already that you need to figure out the ignition problem.

maybe you could post pics of your maps without the compare feature, or just upload your whole .dat file. If the red shows the ignition timing for the modified map as that much higher then the base map then that is probably too advanced for a street port.
It would be easier to tell by just looking at the map you have though, then by trying to compare.
