Power FC Ideas?
Ideas?
Got a question folks. I have a fresh rebuild and I believe the car is running rich at idle cause my cat is cherry red. Trying to figure out why it's rich. It is currently running on base mod map. I figure either an injector is leaking or I was wondering if a faulty fuel temp sensor could cause it to run rich? My FC reads 4.98v on the fuel temp.
Grab a base map off my website to fit the combination ya got there. May not have a good base map on it. Doubtful on the fuel temp sensor, btw.

Brian, man glad you chimed in. This is Ken with the silver FD from Omar's shop. I am trying to get some miles on this car so you can tune it. After I saw the cat glowing at idle I was afraid to drive it anymore. So the fuel temp reading 4.98 not the problem? Might be an injector. It's hard to think that it is running that rich just from the base map being off. Ya think? I know they run rich after rebuild until broken in but will it run that rich?

Hey Ken, I'll have to look into it but I don't recall that ever being an issue. If it were really running dog rich, the car would barely run and poof a bunch of black smoke out the tail.

Does it smell reaally rich? And does it drive smooth? What injector setup are you running? Mods? The fuel temp sensor shouldn't have anything to do with it. Most guys running aftermarket rails have no fuel temp sensor. Although if you don't adjust the fuel temp map with a datalogit it will add .020 ms to the fuel maps. I doubt thats enough to cause any issues or a serious impact on afrs.
I know if the fuel temp switch were unhooked it may not make a difference but I wondered if the fuel temp switch were faulty if the PFC would think the car needs more fuel. At time of rebuild my car now has large street port, new housings, new bearings, intake, exhaust ceramic coated, high flow cat, catback, secondary throttle plates in UIM removed, 99 twins. Seems to run smooth above 2K, has loping idle due to porting. The map I'm running is the base mod map that comes with PFC until I can get it tuned. The MAPS can be seen here:

What should my timing be at idle. maybe that's the cause? Brian maybe you could shed some light? The street port I got was pretty much the same as Omar's other customers. Maybe you had to adjust their timing?

Why haven't you used the Commander and reduce idle fule to see what happens?
The PFC with the Commander and manual are a "PLUG-N-Play-N-Learn" unit.
Are you telling us that you will not experiment and learn?

I have no problem adjusting the tune but since I am not a tuner I don't want to experiment and "learn" that I just burned up my $$$$$$ motor. I am however going to plug in one of BDC maps that fits my build and try it out. Looking at some of his maps I see that the base mod map that ships with the unit is about 15% richer at idle. Could help.

You can't burn up a motor while idling or cruising with only fuel adjustments.
I suggest you do nothing except tow the car back to a tuner.
Well I would take it to a tuner but they are all at least 400 miles from me and I have to break it in before I can tune it. Brian from BDC will back down here in a few weeks to tune it but I need to get some miles on it first. I realize that I am not going to lean it out changing a few percent but Brian has some good maps on his site that will fit my needs for now. I am finding out the base mod map that comes with the PFC is not that great. Thanks for your suggestions. After reading quite a bit last night I am more comfortable changing some things around.
I will call you if needed. Did you take a look at that map on your site? 550850modified? I think it should fit my car for the meantime. Omar did a pretty aggressive port. Extended port. I sent you a PM. If you get a chance if you could look at my PM and all my mods and let me know if that particular map on your site will be adequate and safe for the time being. Thanks
