Here's the secret......

1)Get engine nice and toasty warm.
2)Get on the highway with a buddy (or victim) in another car
3)Get up to 130mph or so in 4th
4)Let off the gas BUT keep it in gear.

If the engine is warm enough and you have a MP and DP, I promise 3-4 foot flames. Flames BIG enough that almost reach over your rear bumper and bright enough to see from your side view mirrow

I've done it in 3rd and 4th gears. Wasn't the 1 huge flame that was in thread in 3rd gen forum.

From what others said, every time it backfired a 1ft to 2ft flame would shoot out. Maybe 1 a second or so.

I still don't know if I'm flaming yet. No one has followed me to check. I'm not entirely sure the RB dual tip will allow flammage of the caliber Flybye's exhaust makes

The Fast and the Furious **** ruined it for me. I felt like a **** going out on the highway at night just to shoot a couple flames.

The alternate way is to buy an RX-8. I'm told they do it stock.

ok do most of you have FDs??cuz i have a FC, do i do it the same way the FD does it?

Naturally aspirated FCs throw flames much easier. You just need headers and full open exhaust. Redline the throttle, lift of the gas, and POW! 3-foot flames shoot out of both exhaust tips!

Retired the FD3S from open track. If I instruct @ Road Atlanta, I hope to be driving a rented 944 Turbo from the local Porsche speed shop there in Braselton (if I have the dough)

Decided the FD3S is just too damned fragile to open track drive anymore, at least at the level I want to track it. I can't help but drive the FD3S at its absolute limit, and the car just can't take it without breaking. I'm keeping everything on the car though. I plan to instruct for TracQuest next June @ Road Atlanta. I'll drive my FD3S to the event, but will try to rent a race-prepped Porsche 944 Turbo to drive (I think it's $750 to rent for the day or something?). I'll keep in touch and perhaps we can hook up next summer in Braselton?

Weeeelll, just some warning, don't get your hopes up that just because you have mp, you're going to shoot flames. Call me all the names you want, but I'm a pyro and I like flames that come out of cars without having to use the stupid sparkplug trick! So I had high hopes when I had to put a mp on my car. But alas, no flames . With a single turbo, dp/mp, and running so rich the back of the car turns black, I expected a little better. I'm actually suspicious maybe I'm TOO rich for it. I get the backfires, they just don't ignite for whatever reason.... Then again maybe they're coming out of my dumptube and I just don't know it......

No special Power FC settings. Pretty much stock deceleration fuel cut settings.

Exhaust was plenty hot. Boost set to 1.05 kg/cm^2. Apparently the flames shoot from lifting off of the throttle going into a turn? I can hear the "bap, bap, bap" sound. Note that we're approaching a turn ahead, so I must have been lifting and heel-toe downshifting into the turn

DP/MP/Racing Beat dual tip catback exhaust.

Mods are plenty for 370 rwhp at 10.9 to 11.1 AFR, 16 psi on '99 Type RS J-spec twins with GReddy 2-row FMIC

Just got back from 3 days of instructing @ open tracking events. Friday was IRP Road Course with my own group (MDC); Sat/Sun was Putnam Park Road Course with the Central Indiana Region Porsche Club.

My car ran like a top at 12 psi, I killed just about everything in my sights

Right now I have no complaints.

Next event is instructing @ Mid Ohio for Todd Serota of TracQuest.

Oh, BTW, the corner workers, and anyone I passed saw the fireballs shooting out my Racing Beat dual tip catback. I'm told the flames are 3-foot long

Biggest problems in the past couple of years were twin sequential turbo control problems (vacuum chamber filled with oil--fixed with dual sequential 1-way check valves and a gravity loop), clogged catalytic converter which kept the turbos from boosting (now running a midpipe), hot-running during the summer (sealed off rad and IC core), oil leaks (sealed leaks with silicone sealant--currently dry), oil catch can filling too quickly (solved with the new Crispy cap), and other nagging issues that I can't recall at the moment.

I'm almost %100 sure have atleast 2 of those problems you mentioned above, thanks for identifying them for me! Where exactly did you apply the lubricant for the oil leaks? I really need to clear up that problem fast so I don't get rejected on a tech inspection!

I applied silicone sealant at the UIM/Throttlebody/GReddy Elbow connections. Installed an oil pan brace from Staff's Auto. Fixed oil return flange connection leak caused by a broken 10-mm bolt. Yes my FD is running trouble-free right now, and pushing her HARD on the track!

so to shoot flame with a POWERFC, all you do is go to rev/Idle and just turn the setting for RPMs to max? at what speed/gear does it tend to shoot ?

you are turning off the fuel cut on decel, so when you lift it is still spraying fuel..... so try it around 4k -6k rpm and floor it and let off.

You will shoot your eye out with that thing. Be careful not to burn your bumper off....

On both my fc and my fd I have had many exhaust systems.
I only get good flames when I have a slight exhaust leak at the cat to cat back flange. Not so huge it sounds like a helicopter, just not a perfect seal.

Running ROM tune stock ecu in fd currently and a high flow cat and the flames are pretty intense. Over ~6k rpm when under load most throttle lifts or shifts get the big poofy flames and up to 3 second flames on long decel. Short burst of flames on free rev.

Prior exhaust was 4" with no cats, but no exhaust leaks and I didnt notice any flames.

Smb highflow cat 9,000rpm redline free rev.
