Hi/Low Boost switch on the fly

Is there a trick to do this? I cant remember if there is a kit offered by apexi to do this.....is there? Can it be done?
Is the only way to do this is getting a dedicated boost controler???
switch from low boost to high by the flick of a switch(i'm thinking the fog light/dead switch on the center console)
TIA

Buy the FC-Datalogit. It has this feature - and can do this without the Commander or PC connected.

But then you also need a laptop to control the datalogit so it is not the same.

Get the Greddy Profect B with remote boost control button to do what you want.

I had a feeling it was going to require a dedicated boost controler....
Oh well, guess its gonna be a Profec B!
Thanx,

If I remember correctly the datalogit will allow you to hook up a physical switch to control the boost. And at that point you would not need a commander or pc connected to use it.

Chuck, what do you mean you need the laptop? You need someone with a laptop to enable the boost switch, but you don't need the laptop to be hooked up to use the switch.

I just installed the boost switch this weekend. I used a Fog0light switch in the blank middle switch location on the console. I even got it to iluminate. With this I can switch on the fly between my high and low settings - without the commander or a laptop.

It works really well. I drive a a nice smooth 10 lbs, then when I know I want to really gun it I can flip the switch and get 13 lbs (or 14 on primary, 12 on secondaries, as I have it set up). I guess this is nothing new - ppl with the Profec have had this feature, but after a year of digging out the Commander and slogging through the menus, it is a dream.

2Fast7S - The stock fog light swich is pretty nice - big, easy to find without eyes, and has a nice click. Can the profecB work with any switch, or only with the add-on that they sell?

Anyway, I hope this helps.

Oh, and if you already have a laptop, or can borrow one. The cost of the datalogit about equals the Profec (unless I'm losing my memory). And you get all the diagnostic info, when you need it.

-Erik
PS - Sorry for all the insanly pro-datalogit posts. Between this switch and the fact that I was able, after a year, to diagnose my boost problem (bad PFC box ) I'm a pretty happy camper.

You are correct, para E-5-2 explains it.

The nice thing about the Profec is you get 3 settings instead of 2.
Kind of like a low (Profec off) medium (profec low) and high (profec high).

ech, i'm really interested in this boost switch you speak of. I would like a way to easily flip between my two boost settings on the fly, and this seems perfect.

I see the fact that there is a checkbox in the datalogit software to turn on the boost switch feature. But my question is, how do you wire up the switch so that this will work??? I have a spare foglight switch that I was planning on using for the fan mod.... but I may just do this instead.

Thanks for your help.

That's what I did.

1) take your spare fog light switch and cut off the connector. There are 4 wires. The thin ones are for the light, the thick ones are for the switch.
2) Lift up the center console - there are snaps all around the outside - they pop up with gentle pressure. Sometimes the metal clip pops out, so keep track of them.
3) use a stubby short screwdriver (pref magnetic) to remove the 4 screws that hold in the bank of 3 switches/blanks.
4) unplug the foglight and rear defroster switches and pull the assy out.
5) I spliced the light wires from my boost control switch into the existing wires on the foglight switch. There are probably other options.
6) take about 4-5' of wire and attach it to the new switch.
7) run the wire back through the console, over the passenger's legs (some zip ties work here) and to the datalogit by the ECU - or wherever you have it.
8) put one wire into the datalogit (see instructions, but I think it's SW4)
9) connect the other wire the the chasis ground. I used the same ground the ECU uses. DON'T connect it to "0V" on the datalogit - that isn't ground.
10)snap everythig back together.

11) there are two checkboxes in the FCEdit software, one for boost control, and the other for special features, right above it. Make sure both of those are checked.

you are done. enjoy.

I bought my pfc with a commander and am curious whether my boost limitation of 10psi is possibly linked to him having an external switch - thoughts?
