Power FC Help with a Precision T76 Upgrade
Help with a Precision T76 Upgrade
I'm finally finished with my single turbo upgrade, but I'm concerned about hurting the motor before I start test driving. In summary my setup includes:
550 primaries
1600 secondaries
FPR
Precision PT76
Rewired Walpro
FMIC
Street Port by Petit Racing
Power FC
No cats
MSD
I have started the car with the Petit ECU but have not driven it yet. I will have to install the Power FC but I wanted to make sure it would idle with no problems first.
Here are my concerns:
1. I can only get 89 octane pump gas on the island, What AFR should I aim for street driving. I'm think 10;, for over 8psi. Also, what should be my starting max boost. My present wastegate has a 10lbs spring and I think this might be too much.
2. With C16, what do you think the max bost I can run? The turbo made 780hp at 22psi on a fully built mustang last month.
3. All IC pipingis 3-inch, however, the intercooler inlets are 2.5-inch. Do you think this will hurt performance or increase air temps too much?
4. Does anyone know where I can get a good map to start with on the PFC?
5. What is the knock threshold I should use on the PFC, and how much timing should I retard? I have heard 60 knock and retatd 20deg. I never got 60 knock on my FC3S but we still hurt the motor last month.
6. What do you think is a realistic hp goal?
7. Our race track is a 1/8th track, can I run 7.0 with this setup?
Here are a couple of pictures of my car before the upgrade and my friends evo.

As far as tuning I have a dyno to use but nobody knows the PFC well. I know it oretty good from using it on my FC and a EVO 6, but, this turbo blows a hell of alot more CFM's than the T61 I had on it before. I'm really worrid about blowing it on the dyno.
My plan is as follows:
1. Use, and leave untouch, the base ignition map that comes with the PFC.
2. Tune the AFR's so that they are 13.5 at vacuum, 12.5 for 0 to 6psi, 11.5 for 6psi to 10psi, and 10.5 from 10psi to 18psi.
3. I will run pump gas to 15psi max and C16 to 18Psi max, maybe 22psi someday.
Any tips on what to watch to make sure the motor is always safe wuld be great.
I have heard to keep the knock under 60, but on my FC I kept the knock under 30 at all times.
I heard that the air temp sensor reading is not accurate or fast enough to watch.
I will install a EGT but can't find the agreed limits that I should be looking for. I have checked the forum and there seems to be wide range.
Finally, I read about people you had knock under 30 and still blew-up on the dyno.
I do not want to blow-up. I want to drive the car no matter what the hp results are, but I don't want to be leaving tons of power on the table.
(1): Cameron knows the car very well, but he is really busy and the trip to the Bahamas takes almost three days out of his schedule. He checked the car for me two years ago and said the motor was strong. Since then I have added the single turbo.
(A1) have Cameron send you a new timing map and suggested AFRs vs boost.

(A2) Same as A1.
(3)My plan is as follows:
1. Use, and leave untouch, the base ignition map that comes with the PFC.
(A3a) BAD! The base mod map timing is not good for your setrup!
2. Tune the AFR's so that they are 13.5 at vacuum, 12.5 for 0 to 6psi, 11.5 for 6psi to 10psi, and 10.5 from 10psi to 18psi.
(A3b) Idle AFRs are not tuned for a specific AFR value but tuned for best lean idle to keep the plugs clean as posible with a smooth as posible idle.
Cruise can be tune to 16-17 AFR above about 45mph.
12.1 to 12.5 AFR is good for 0-6psi. 10.5AFR is too rich even for 10-12psi Back to A1.
3. I will run pump gas to 15psi max and C16 to 18Psi max, maybe 22psi someday.
(A3c) GOOD!

Okay..but if Cameron does not respond quickly what changes can I do. Will you send me one..
