FD - strange cold idle, could it be my Power FC?

Well, this happened a few weeks ago and is still on going. One morning, woke up to find that my car, when cold (below 52C water temp) idles at 2000 rpm. once it hits 52C (water temp) the idle drops to around 1100 rpm. once it reaches around 75C the idle settles down to the 850-950 range where it used to be at all the time.

my question is this: Is there a setting on the PFC that I could have accidentally/inadvertantly changed via the Commander hand set while fumbling with it in the morning that would lead to this type of behavior?

I've already checked all the mechanical linkage (as closely as i can without micrometers, etc.) and nothing changes from hot to cold (again, that i can notice). If it can't be the PFC, anyone have any other suggestions? i just find it VERY odd that the idle is based on water temp not ambient.

Sounds normal to me. The coolant temp is a good indicator of how warmed up the car is and the intake temp is not.

i realize that, but why is my idle changing based on water temp? it never did this before about two weeks ago.

What did it used to do?

I don't think the PFC operates the AWS but that would make a difference compared to the stock ECU. The thermowax setup in the throttlebody affects idle with the PowerFC still. Look in the Workshop Manual on how to check and adjust it.

Not to sound like an ***, but are you serious? Every car I've owned goes through this warm up process, not just the RX7.

take out the spring for the thermo wax. and adjust it so it does not block any linkages.

no, you don't sound like an *** at all, i'm not doing a very good job of explaining this i think. the car used to start up and idle at 850-950 rpm (maybe at 1k rpm if it was really cold) not matter what the water temp was... all the way from -3C to 95C. it sounds like i need to look into this thermo wax thing a bit more. thanks guys. no one else had pointed that out to me.

i've had the car for a while now, but well, this is the first real issue i've ever had with it so i haven't had to do too much diggin around with the little things. (knock on wood)

A bump for another thread that exactly describes my current problem with a 2000 RPM cold idle on my PFC. What is the way to correct this problem?

Any help appreciated,
Regards,
Justin Wade

Disconnect the wax rod assembly as mentioned above. If it's already removed and this was not happening before then either your throttle linkage is sticking or your ISC is sticking.

Or adjust the screw on the level for it so that it does not rev as high and disconnects sooner.

Any put your internal fan on position 3, which will lower the idle as well. Then turn off once up to temp. Similar problem on mine which i was told was normal. But does sound like its only normal for some.

I have adjusted screw and use the internal fan to control this issue to an acceptable level.
