Ok, let me clear this up:

a) A new version of FC Tune (Windows) is planned for September. So you can use your laptop for tuning/logging.

b) I made the source of FC Tune portable (except the user interface), so the Commander runs a full featured Linux version with a custom user interface. The Commander connects to your Datalogit box.

The Commander offers, but is not intended for tuning. That's what the PC software is for. Unlike the original Commander it gives access to all maps and settings. It is a replacement for the original Commander and is intended for daily automatic logging and monitoring (optional on a LCD screen).

Keep up the great work, dude
I'm still really interested in a skinnable digital gauge program. After seeing your work so far, I assume that that aspect of the software would be relatively easy for you to implement.
Carputers have come down in price so much that having this constantly hooked up to function as a PFC interface and ALL my extra gauges would be fantastic.

You don't need a carputer, just a LCD (PAL or NTSC) or anything else with AV input.

Personally I'll get one of those or similar. Just look on eBay for "moniceiver".

Here is a pic of the added converter board. Final board will be a little bit smaller due to space problems. Also needs mods of the connector + custom cables.

OK, posting here to keep track of your awesome progress. So, how much will the windows "tuning" software cost? Could the mobile version run on a hacked PSP running linux? I have a spare psp, and a couple spare gameboys I could mess with. Also, if possible, a linux version of the tuning software would be awesome.

The PC software was free so far and I intended to keep it free, but the next version might be $5 to cover development costs. Or I might keep the basic version free and make a Pro version with additional features. Don't know yet. I don't want to make money with the software, just want to fund the development or further stuff.

Yes, but only on the PSP-1000. I'd just have to make a cable for the remote port. PSP-2000 and PSP-3000 won't work. Which is a pity because only the 2000 and 3000 have a TV out.

I've evaluated all available handhelds. My principal accepted the Commander as my project for my master's degree, so everything will be fully documented.

The code compiles on Mac and Linux, I just don't have an UI for those OSes yet
Also realistically I don't see a Mac and Linux version before next year.

The "Mobile" (Commander) user interface is written on top of SDL and will run on all OSes. Though it will be 320x240 pixels and keyboard only.

Wow, that is all great news. If you want me to donate ahead of time, I completely will. I'm a developer also, and have done some open source projects, so I know how hard it is to work on it for free. I do have a PSP-1000, and am very intrigued to see it running that. I'd be happy to send money ahead of time for the cable also. Ah, one other question. I saw you mentioned a cable interface allowing direct PC to PFC communication. Where does that sit?

What ever happened to this? I'm looking to update a FD that was built back in '05. It needs gauges and logging, etc for me to feel comfortable running it hard. Technology sure has changed... quite a bit since '10 even.

like the Dodo bird FC Tune is out there but rarely seen.

i think i played with it for about an hour years ago and went right back to FC Edit. it is a great idea, even better would be to implement it to work on a portable tablet/wifi device. cords just suck.

it has always bothered me how rather useless the FC commander was for tuning, everything was locked into the ECU and Apexi never even offered any way of unlocking all the features.

I hear ya. I need some major instrumentation. The car I purchased is a Gotham build, but it only has boost and an aftermarket temp gauge. No logging. Nothing. After doing pricing on the needed (wanted) logging instrumentation, racelogic traction control, J&S knock system, replacing the aquamist with dead race pump, oLED commander (so I can read the stupid thing), and datalogit I'm half way considering jumping ship and going to another management system that can do most of these items all in one box. The PowerFC must have been great in its day, but it seems to be dead. I would think a firmware upgrade could do SOME of these things.

Seriously? Lighting a light when a knock limit is exceeded, but not retarding timing????

it's not dead, it's just more aimed at the lower end of the spectrum now. i have built a few cars pushing the limits even with it's substandard equivalence these days. for the longest time it was the ONLY plug n play unit out there and only just recently have there been options made in that respect with other units.

i still recommend them for rather stock FD builds and even some more aggressive ones. but FC Edit has always had tons more support than FC Tune ever has.

For what you're looking for, a Power FC is not really for you. Look into a Haltech Platinum Sport 1000 (widely supported around here) or AEM EMS (capable, with wide support from most tuners outside of the rotary world).

It's a pity that this was never completed .
If we could get the source code for this , my friend could help me to re write the handheld portion to a raspberry pie , and hook up a nice display . A pie goes for 35 $ new and all i want is digital gauges ( There is already plenty tuning software out there ) but the handheld on linux with colour gauges would be cool .
Does anyone have the sourcecode for this or knows how to contact Fasthatch ?
