Power FC Epic Problem. no >2krpm
Epic Problem. no >2krpm
I purchased a power FC, and installed it.
it is a newer version for which there is not an english manual, so some of the sensors on the right i am not sure what they are.
here we go...i'm going to attempt cliff notes so i don't murder your eyes
Stock ECU runs fine with the car, no problems.
Power FC will not let me rev past 1800rpms.
it's like a fuel cut almost, kind of stutters and bounces off that point.
if i go WOT into it, the car throws a huge misfire
the knock reading does not increase during this.
The sensor page has no left side items highlighted, the map sensor matches my boost gauge(closely), the rpm reading matches my tach(closely), and there are no codes being thrown.
Here's the tricky part that is why i am posting here.
This is on a Lexus SC300 with a 1jz-gte engine.
the Power FC is an AP Engineering model.
I had to wire in a new wire so i had a CEL light(thinking the ecu might be in limp mode without this light), but now the light works, there's no codes, and the ecu still doesn't go past 1800.
The car is high mileage, and i'm thinking it might be injector/fuel related.
i bought this as part of a single turbo upgrade, and am thinking of replacing the fuel lines and injectors and such and then lowering the fuel maps to see if it will go then.
If i can't get this to work, i'm going to be forced to take it to a tuner, and from the sounds of it...nobody knows what's wrong, so it'd be rape. . .
oh yea, electric load sensor works, brakes, idl's, the WRN isn't "on" nor is EXT.
but there is an RPG that flashes...not sure what this is...usually doesn't start flashing until i've hit the 1800 limit

i came here for a reason :p
there aren't too many people running a PFC and a 1jz in the SC300...
actually, there's only 1 i know of other than me, and he was unable to help.
the Australian forums haven't had an issue like this(based off searches), and it really seems like a possible wiring issue since it happens at such a low rpm.
i posted here because i've been google searching for over a month, and i've pulled and added fuel, and check other basics...i mean...i'm mainly lost because it's at such a low rpm.
so yea, i am trying to find out what you guys think the problem could be, and if anyone's had a similar problem here? i've google searched through this forum as well, and while google-ing in general, this forum came up A LOT. which makes sense since you guys love the PFC
so yea...just looking for ideas on what to look for next? or hoping that someone else has had this problem and can help?
*edit* oh yea, i bought the AP Engineering Power FC from nengun.com

How the hell are we supposed to help you??? You'd be better off on the Supra forum if nothing else.
And there is an english manual, it's on Apexi's website for pete's sake!

If your car was a FD, I would say:
(1) check and adjust for correct TPS voltage.
(2) verify that the map sensor vacuum/boost hose is connected.
(3) make sure that you selected the correct map sensor scale and offset.
(4) make sure that the fuel cutoff rpm is set to 8500 rpm.
(5) verify that the injector setup is correct.
But you car has a mass air sensor doesn't it???? Then that has to be setup properly.

ThX Cew for the reply.
my TPS is within tolerances for it's range.
i do have a map sensor, and it is connected.
i re-initiallized the power fc, sot he fuel cut should be at the right rpm, the stock map sensor is selected on the commander, and the injector set-up is the last thing...and i'm not sure about it, but the tips are light green, which is the color of stock 1jz injectors.
also, about the manual, for my commanders it IS NOT in english.
when i mean manual, i am searching for the one that talks about the etc-> sensor check meanings...not the simple thing...i managed to find the jzz30 manual for my car googling one day, but it was in japanese. Also, i, of course, already tried Supra Forums...but no help, and since i think the problem might be wiring, that kind of sets them off from me anyways...it's Club Lexus that is failing me at the moment, because nobody has a 1jz and power fc with this issue, most people have enough money to pay for other things, and pay for the work.
once again, ThX Cew. . .i will double check the fuel cut value, as i may have messed this up somehow

hope you don't mean this one:

the abbreviations on my commander are different if so.
I'm have a friend trying to translate the japanese manual for me, I can't seem to tiem it again with google, but it was for the jzz30, and yea. . .just japanese
if it's not that link, then iunno..i searched and got that.

That is the FD manual. Even so any screen/table for the same parameter will operate the same. And there are many very similar tables. I have a copy of the UNIVERSAL Datalogit software which includes various engine maps. Only a few tables are different.
lol, we're on different pages still :p
i'm not trying to learn how to use the commander, I am trying to fidn out what the sensor check page things mean
ie. WRN - Warning EXT - Exhaust Temp.
i've been able to figure out most, but i don't know what this one that blinks is...it's RPG.
at least i think we're on different pages, because you said maps, making me thinkg you were talking about injection and timing maps.

ok, finally got someone to translate a japanese manual that is very close to mine into english.
the relevant info:
RPG blinks on the sensor page - Purge Canister
CCO has a constant 5V - Exhaust temp
VTA2 has constant 5V - Throttle 2
TPS seems to be in range (.15V idle -> 3.8V WOT)
WRN is not highlighted when running, guessing it is normal, yet on the manual is was highlighted :-\

FD's use a speed density (manifold pressure based) and not mass air. that and the fact that our rotary ignition setup and injector staging are completely different than your 1jz piston engine setup make it about 100% impossible for us to help you with your problem
i'm gonna take a shot in the dark and blame the ignition settings and/or the MAF settings.
