APEXi said the old style commander is discontinued and the new version is the EL Type. From what I was told I would be one of the first users. It costs a bit more but nothing I can do about that. It hasn't arrived yet and I won't be installing my PowerFC for a while but. . .
Does anyone else have experience with the new commander? Good reviews?

 

I might as well add that the main difference between the older style and EL is the screen. Supposed to have better visibility in sunlight and at night. Better contrast and easier to read. Yeah so don't get scared people it's not a drastic change that makes your old model worthless.

 

If the new commander is LED instead of LCD, then the old is worthless and I would buy the newone!

 

Is the new commander FINALLY available? They showed it at some show in Japan last year, I've been DROOLING waiting for it to come available.

Is it available separately? Any idea on pricing?

I will pay good money for that sucker!

This has been one of the HUGE problems with the PFC from the get go is the terrible damn screen. There's fixin' to be a ton of used commanders on the market .

so just the handheld is 380, to bad but i want to see it in person.. wonder if it still has the problems the old one has, like if its really hot out and i come to the car the pixles seems weird/ darker when hot

I doubt it will have problems with the sun. The display technology is EL like they use in the AVC-R and S-AFC screens.

I translated the PDF document, it does also have a light sensor so it can dim when it gets dark, which is really nice. The AVC-R et al do the same thing.

Jimmy at Fighters Garage called his contact at Apexi USA, it's supposed to be available next month in the US, but he couldn't find anything on pricing for the US version.

I'll be first in line for that sucker.

I do wish they would make a Commander that's in the same case style as an AVC-R or something. Most of us use the Commander for a gauge readout, and the T-shaped case is just awkward as a gauge and limits where you can put it.

But, I'll be SO happy to actually have a Commander that's readable . The screen on the Commander has LONG been a sore spot with me.

Hell, I'd buy it if the letters were HOT PINK. The current commander's screen is so damn useless it isn't even funny. Not only does the screen look bobo, but it's totally washed out in daylight, turns full black if it's in the sun, and is somewhat readable at night, which is really the only time it's useful.

This is far less about how it looks as to how it works. The current commander is barely acceptable.

yea the turning black in the sun with the heat is a pain, and if the sun hits it the reflection makes it hard to see. I wanna see more pictures and info about this, seems like id have to save more money to get one if i like it
