i'm looking for a commander adapter. basically i want somehing like this

so that when i park my car out on the streets i can just disconnect the commander unit and take it inside or put it in the glove box. i imagine it's easy, just need to find the adapter that works with the commander. anybody have done this?

Mini DIN connectors

I just finished making that exact set of cables. I have one cable that has in-line connectors at both ends and a second cable that has the in-line connector at one end and a panel mount connector at the other. I use the second cable as a permanent hidden cable from the source (in my case a datalogit, in most cases it would be the PFC) going to a custom made DIN panel mounted on the dash. When I want to hook up, I just plug the Commander into the panel mount.

Your source for the connectors is Digi-key at www.digikey.com or 1-800-344-4539. The connectors are 5 position Mini-DIN connectors with the following part numbers and prices. At minimum you will need one male and one female. You can order pin type connectors for these although in an automotive setting I suggest direct soldering to the pinouts.

For the inline connectors the alternate choice is in case they are out of stock on one or the other. For the panel mounts, it is simply a choice of style or convenience.

In line plug: CP-2050-ND- $.99 OR 275-1030-ND- $1.05
In line recept: CP-2650-ND-$1.23 OR 275-1036-ND-$1.27

Receptacle Panel Mount metal -CP-2550-ND-$1.17
Receptacle Panel Mount black plastic- CP-2650-ND-$1.23
Receptacle Panel Mount black plastic with wires attached
275-1102-ND -$2.14

Hope this helps, feel free to PM for additional info if needed.

Um, while I applaud your efforts, why not just buy a PS2 keyboard extension cable from your local CompUSA or other computer retailer?

ps2 port is computer standard.
the electrical connector name I think is Mini DIN 5 or 6.
That means its a 5/6 pin DIN type connector.

Do not try a ps2 cable. At best you will spend money at worst you will screw up the pins on your commander.

A standard ps2 cable is incompatible with the Power FC and commander.

Don't take my word for it though. Compare them closely, Count the pins and look at the center plastic alignment pin.

Before I made my own cables, I went there and done that....BIG mistake in both $$$ and time.
