Base map safe for my mods ?

Hi Guys

I am getting my RX-7 arround the 23rd od december . I wanna use the hollidays to put in my power FC . Current Engine mods are : Apexi Intakes , HKS Cat Back . Otherwhise the car is stock . I want to fit my Apexi Power FC over the festive season and drive arround a bit . Is it safe to drive just with the Base map on these mods (My tuner will only have time in Jauary to give it a proper tune ) ? It is a 1996 Type RS JDM

Thanks

Markus

My cars second turbo doesn't come online ( probably caused by incorrect vaccum hose routing ) that the guy did when my car was imported . I installed the power fc , so I have a little more diagnostics . I noticed the exhaust light comes on at about 2500 revs . When I look at my oled commander I see that the knock bar maxes out arround those revs . What could be the cause of this ? The mods when I got this car where . Apexi twin intakes , blitz catback with removed main cat . It's a 1996 series 7 . The car is staring fine cold and warm . But I am really scared to drive the car like this . Any idea where I can start looking ? . On a unrelated note , the rear wheel bearing is totally stuffe and I am replacing that , so I can't drive the car right now anyway . How could I go about looking for the reason of my knock ? Can it be related to the possibly incorrect turbo vac hoses ? Please let me know

If you're certain that the vac hoses are hooked up incorrectly, fix the known problem before investigating elsewhere

First post: Apexi Intakes , HKS Cat Back . Otherwhise the car is stock

Second post: Apexi twin intakes , blitz catback with removed main cat

Which is it? The removed main cat is a major difference.

PFC Instructions Read page 9 about Exhaust Temp warning light.

Sorry for the confusion . When i Sarted the import process I was told it's a HKS. Once the car landed I saw that it was a blitz exhaust (catback) and that the main cat had been removed (by my importer ) . Therefore the car is cat less now

That will cause the car to have boost creep and run lean. Now the base map in not safe.

My biggest problem is that in South Africa no one wants to touch a power fc . I am going to install a greddy profec (new oled) boost controller . Will that be good enough to prevent boost creap ? The car is currently standing due to the rear wheel bearings . I have fc edit and the cable to interface the power fc . But I am obviously not experienced enough to tune it myself . Any ideas ?

My FD with a PFC was the first car I ever tuned
There's a great guide by (I think) cewrx7r1 that walks you through it

Boost controllers only control boost UP, not down. Put a cat back on and the boost will stay in check, otherwise the turbos should be removed to port the wastegate.

The PFC is capable of controlling the twins just fine, do not waste your money on the boost controller it will not solve your problem.

Not a catback, you have that. Install a main cat, even a high flow will be restrictive enough.

Finally got the turbos sorted out . And the second turbo spools now fine . Also found out that the guy that removed my main cat , put a restrictor in it's place . I also didn't get any boost creep . But I still pick up a knock of 105 . What I did so far . Changed oil , coolant , thermostat mod , new spark plugs . Fixed the issue of the 2nd turbo not comming online ( incorrect routet vacuum pipe ) . The car runs nice now , except the knock which concerns me . I haven't been able to get a new cat here in South Africa . I am fetching the car on Monday and make a log with fc edit and post it here . Help would be much appreciated thanks in advance .

Should also mention that I am located in Pretoria , which is about 1400 - 1600 m above sea level . I don't think this is related to the knocking , but I just wanted to give as much info as I can

At what rpm/boost are you getting the knock?
Sometimes things resonate a a certain freq and look like knock when it's not really knock

It starts picking up at about 2300 rpm . I also read it could be vibrations but I checked if anything is loose or vibrates , also replaced my rear wheel bearings ( as one was totally gone ) on those pictures the I had the accelerator about 50 percent in . 2300 was still fine and 2600 it starts to pick up . 2800 my engine light comes on and the knock bar maxes out .

Map and traces

Here is some traces i made with FC Edit , as well as my basemap . Does the knock seem like real knock or is it just noise ?
Is there a way to make my basemap safer ?
