I finally got around to snapping a side-by-side photo.

As you can see, unlike the the FC pan, the FD pan actually adds some depth.

Hey Howard, I have this pan now, and after all of the work. I swear I needed like 7 quarts of oil. That might just be because the engine was fully dry after the removal and install of the old and new pan. It doesn't go any lower than the sub frame. You won't have any clearance problems at all. It's a PITA to install, but worth it. It looks great. It's a shame no one can see the work this FD has engineered into it. By the way, I made my decision on my clutch because of you. You should take my advice here. Get this pan! By the way. This pan gets rid of the oil level sender. Awesome, that thing doesn't work anyway.

The FD pan is manufactured by our partners at Xcessive, so we don't have that much input in the design other than the functional side. If I really pushed them, I could probably get it changed but it's hard to justify when the FD pan outsells the FC pan 4 to 1. As we say around here, FC owners squeek when they walk, so getting any money out of them requires more effort. The FD pans sell themselves.

So theres no way of talking you into making the FD pan look like the FC pan? . It's alright, it's still something i'm going to need to do, nothing to do with asthetics. I'll probably get around to ordering one in the next couple weeks, thanks for the info and the picture .

Talking about oil related things, i now have a question. Blake, what do you think about those magnet kits that attach t to the oil filter? They use rare earth magnets (Neodimium) which are very strong, concidering a 1''x1''x.25'' neodimium magnet have a pull/push force of 40lbs. Obviously the idea would be similar to the magnetic drain plug of a tranny. I dont doubt this device would work, however the magnet would only be attracted to Nickle, Cobalt, or Iron. So with that sayed, how much of these elements would be present in the oil in the first place. I remember reading that the rotor housings are coated with Chrome, which is a pure element 'Cr', therefore a magnet would have no effect to Cr suspended in the oil. The other high wear item would be the apex seals, which contain iron.. i think, so those particles would benifit. As far as oxidatized metals(rust)from the engine system, foreign particles from intake etc, im not sure if these would out weight all the particale sthe general wear items give off. thanks in advance

I don't think they do anything, positive or negative, but there is no harm to them that I am aware of.

i appreciate the picture but the question i asked remains unanswered. what is the net depth differential for the FD?

2 other questions... it appears longer bolts are needed. are they provided and if not what length is suggested.

what happens w the mounter mount bolts? i assume they do not go thru the pan... is this correct? if not can i use the OEM bolts? i assume an O ring is providied. where can i buy spare O rings?

thanks,

howard coleman

About 2 inches.

All the bolts are provided.

The engine mount bolts, if I understand you correctly, do go through the pan, just like stock. The bolts are ~3/8 inch longer and are provided. The O-ring is provided too. We can sell you spares, if you need them.

The next batch of pans are at the machinist right now. After that, we need to weld in the baffling and send them out for powdercoating. Can't give you an ETA. Every vendor seems to be...uh, overly optimistic with their scheduling and I hate having to repeat the excuses. They will be ready when they are ready and I will let you know as soon as that happens.

I am open to the possibility. It needs to be a real group buy and not simply a discount. Let's say 5 orders to start. Price $299, like before. The pans are still in the hands of the machinist and will require a few more steps (welding in baffling, powdercoating, etc.), so we have time to get a list together.

I am highly interested in an FC unit. I would need it shipped to Nor Cal before March 23rd though.
