I'm just wondering if any or all of the engine conversions have had to install aftermarket FD hoods ? 3 rotor 20B? LS1? other?

I don't want to start a 13B vs LS1 debate, I would just like the facts on hood clearance.
The only custom engined FD I've seen had a 2JZ Supra engine which required a carbon hood because the engine sat too high for the OEM hood to clear.

Hinson kit for LSx FD clears a stock hood just fine.

FYI, Ford motor requires spacers for the front subframe, or raising part of the hood somehow, to clear it. Just figured I'd let you know what doesn't work.

There's a local member here who has an LS1 tucked away under the stock hood. It looks like it came that way.

Thanks for your replies,

Does anyone know of any JDM 6 or 8 cyl motors that have been successfully installed with a stock hood, here or in Japan?
LS1 sounds like the supported swap route. I just want to explore all possibilities.

the ls1 does not clear the stock hood without rack and pinion relocation.
the lt1 does with the subframe from grannys speed shop.

if going ls1 i would recomend using the hinson subframe with their bump steer correction tie rods. according to them it eliminates the bumpsteer.

i magazines of people that did a fj22 swap, the sr20 swap, the rb25, the lt1, the ls1, and even a h22 in the fd. (how they delt with the trans on the h22. i have no idea) every one of those swaps i have seen cleared the hood. some moved the power steering rack.. some kept it the same.. (which did which i cant remember)

i personally would do the ls2 v8 if doing a swap. i live in utah.. and sts headquarters is here in utah. they said they could custom build a remote mount turbo kit for the fd with the lsx engine series motors.. but its your car. your decision.

I saw a SICK black FD on ebay a few months ago with either a 302 or 351 ford and edelbrock intake, with what appeared to be a stock hood. It had a centrifugal supercharger, some kind of automatic transmission, and a few 11 second timeslips. The motor was stuffed in there pretty low, but there were no details given on the steering rack issue. The builder might have put the motor behind the rack.
