Srt10 Rx-7

I want to do a V10 swap into a mazda RX-7. I was thinking about putting a viper engine in the RX-7 but I am not sure it would fit or if it is even possible. Have you ever heard of someone doin this and would it screw up the weight distribution?

. . . . . . . think of the size of the FD's engine bay. Go outside and pop your hood. Look inside very closely. Do you think you can shoehorn the viper's V10 in there. . . . honestly?

LS1 would be far superior all the way around than a Dodge V10. A good cam can put you into the 500bpu range with bolt-ons to support it. More than enough for any Rx7.

If you've got money to **** away though, go for it.

How much torque do these cars need? They're already a thousand pounds lighter than Vipers.

u need to add some blinker fluid at the back in order to maintain the 50/50 weight dist.
dont forget put some 22x13 rims on the front to fix the under steer, 22x6 at the back is enuf.

2.3L is half the cost of an LS1 swap so half the torque seems to make sense.

phils car makes 683HP/509TQ at 7500rpm. span on the dyno after that
and its built to go 9k rpm which works out to about 720hp

so about 700hp with 500tq is not quite as good as a 700hp v8, but its cheaper, probably more reliable (depending on the v8 build) and its definately cheaper.

plus, what about the weight. a twin turbo set up weighs a lot compared to a built 2.3 with an aluminum head and ss header

if you want people to smile when they see your engine -get a v8
if you want people to cry when they get beat -get a 2.3t

since my car's weight is a major goal, the light engine is important to me.

If people fit a Supra I-6 in the engine bay, I dont see why the V10 couldnt be shoehorned it. I dont know the exact specs, but it should be shoter than the supra engine. Plus honestly they arent all *that* expensive. Ive admittedly looked into it before, and while I dont really want to do the swap, you can pick up pullouts, or even a complete wrecked SRT-10 ram for ~$10k or less in some cases. If you can fabricate your own crossmember and do some wiring, I say give it a shot, Id love to see it done.

Thanx for the info but what about the tranmission? I wouldnt know what tranny to use for this swap and it looks like it could get extremely complicated.

Anything can go into anything if you have the time, money AND skills. Does anybody remember the Grassroots motorsports challenge from a couple years ago where a ford Festiva had a Taurus SHO engine REAR mounted? Proof that you can combine any car/drivetrain combo. I also believe I saw a Mosler car in one of my mags with a front AND rear mounted Northstar v8.

The factory Viper T-56. No offense, but Im sure it would be a bit complicated, and if youre not comforable doing alot of fab work yourself, you're going to be paying someone a very large amount of money to do this for you.

heres the specs on the Viper engine compared to the LSx seris

H x L x W

Viper engine: 26" x 34 1/2" x 23"
Lsx series: 25" x 28" x 26"
FC engine bay: na x 36" x 33"

So just from the raw numbers here viper engine is 1 inch taller 6.5" longer and smaller by 3 inches in width.

Physically its just a little bit bigger but if you are even going to attempt something of this magnitude I am sure 6.5" is least of your worries.

6.5" is more then just a "little bit" bigger.

With whole new firewall it could clear the hood, but you'd have your hand in the hatch to shift it, unless you built a linkage. I'm sure headers can be accomplished by an experienced fabricator as well.

Too much work, not enough HP.
