SR20 swap into FC RX-7 - Haters gonna hate?

]

First off, if anyone is going to flame or hate on me for doing this or tell me I've taken the soul out of the car needs to keep it to themselves.

Figured I'll post up some pics of my buddies FC I've been working on the last while. Finally starting to get somewhere with it, yay!

It started out as an 87 Turbo chassis, he's done the black interior swap, S5 front bumper, he rocked the 13B for a while but with his luck he kept blowing engines lol. So I suggested an SR, why not. Cheap, easy to make power, parts are everywhere.

Couple years ago he had the shell stripped down and painted

Just this past year I started the swap working on it in my spare time, fabbed up some motor mounts. The white block is a chunk of Delrin we used for solid motor mounts for the 13B.

Had a custom SR > FC driveshaft built

Size: 164.2 KB

Now the probelm with an SR in an FC is that the oil pickup is at the front and so is the steering rack on the FC.....so I had to build an oil pickup tube and oil pan.

I had a stock SR oil pan machined down to basically a flange

Name: DSCF3093-1.jpg

Size: 144.3 KB

Then I fitted some scrap tubing together to build a rear sump oil pickup tube

There she is, fitted on the engine in the car with the oil pan flange in place. see how close the pickup tube is to the steering rack

Alright, on to building the pan to fit everything now....

Functional OEM dipstick too!

Test fit one more time.....

Still have lots of little custom **** to do, rad hoses, heatercore hoses, relocate battery, wire the alternator, starter and tap in the SR ECU in the FC dash harness.

Good looking motor mounts. Pan looks amazing too. Only real decent choice to replace a rotor with.

Keep up good work yo!

Got a question for ya. So, i've got a 3L 6cyl nissan, two ka gearboxes, 200sx gearbox...w/e. They all use the same speedo gear/cable.

Which of the nissan speedo cables will fit these gearboxs? and the oem fc cluster? What about sr stuff? I need a nico club account for this build i've gotten myself into. Haha. Vg30et, nistune, big nasty turbo, spec clutch and SR or KA trans....

I gotta start going to the junkyards over the winter. It'll be too cold and all the "pickers" who are warm blooded will be inside while i reap up good **** for cheaps!

Loving the build and fab work....keep it going though! I wish I would've taken pictures during my build, but for completing the entire swap in 3 months from the day I bought the car, I didn't have time to stop and smell the roses, or take pictures, lol.

That's because they're sissy bitches who's ***** deep in felix wankel's skeleton butthole...or ashy butthole-shaped dugout in his urn.

I like rotaries.

However a car is a car is a car is a car is a car. I'd publically execute an fd by cutting it in half if i was baller. Then i'd light both halves on fire and sink them in challenger deep. Google that if you dont know what it is.

Sooooo, speedo cables. What works with the fc cluster and nissan gearboxes?

I like the oil pan!

Heres how I got clearance for my pan. Might have been another way of doing it.

I Just moved the steering rack forward and lengthened the steering shaft.

I have some questions about your sr swap. well for one, what are the mods you had to do for the engine to fit in, do you have measurments for the mounts or oil pan, or do you know where I could buy the mounts?

Wow long time update, Got the SR running last night YAY.
Only problem is Tach wiring, the stock FC tach doesnt seem to like the SR tach signal....hmmm guess we gotta get a Dakota Digital convertor.

As for building and selling engine mounts and oil pans....no thanks.
Now if someone brings me an SR and an FC, I'll do the swap for them.

man i really wish i could bring my car to you but canada is very long way from alabama. also i'm kinda crippled up and on disabilit and on very limited budget. I can only do small amount of work at a time and my friends have been helping a lot such as givin me the car basically to occupy my time, like to incourage me to get off my tail and do something
I totally understand you not wanting to make more of what you've obviously worked really hard on i just thought i'd ask, no hard feelings at all and i do appreciate this knowlege as well as any further advise you can give.
Really glad to hear you got her fired up yee haaa!!!!!!Hope you get the tac problem figured out best of luck to ya man, your doing awesome job so far so i know you can figure it out

SR20 swapped FC RX-7

Thanks guys, you know all those weirdo rotary purist nerds are sitting at their computer right now having a **** fit because of this haha.

No specs on the engine mounts and oil pan, I made them just for this car. Not planning on doing another one unless the car is brought to me. The driveshaft was $250 if I remember right.

Ur pics have helped a lot. I found a guy bout 30 miles from here that been makin engine mounts to put 5.7 and 6.0 chevy's in fc's and 280's. I hooked him up with 280 connection so he gonna take care of my mounts. If it works out we may try to reproduce some of them. As for driveshaft thats pretty good price, should be able to get done bout any machine shop that can cut n balance a shaft if you got sr front yoke and fc rear. Thanks again man and fuckem if they hate ya cuz ur **** is smooth!
