Started it up this weekend! Thought I had oil pressure issues but the stock gauge was just moving REALLY slow (https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/slow-oil-pressure-gauge-823617/). Once I turned it over it was fine, and I was smiling ear to ear

Hard part is done, now its just labor and getting parts delivered.

you ruined a perfectly good TII, shame on you (

a simple rebuild would've been much less costly than your SR swap.

Very different and not something you see everyday, but unique.

Im flabbergasted..... i dont know what else to say, i cant really rag on you too much, but then again, such a nice looking TII, what a dilemma

Nice job, very well done. Its been awhile since Ive seen and sr20 in an fc. Last time was when the sr20 first became the hot motor swap for the ka. I remember it was black with custom front bumper, it was either on this board or rx7city. When my fd is done, Im going to get a s5 vert, and "ruin" it as well. Maybe a carbed toyo v8

Anyway A+ on the swap, glad to see it came together for you.

Ya I pulled it down below the frame rail and it took the tight bend out, might be changing it up for the oil cooler lines too so we will see.

Got my intercooler and radiator ready to go in, just have to figure out brackets and ducting (both of which I will probably need help with welding is not my strong suit lol).

I saw this setup:

Then picked up this core and the piping used from Batlground:

Here is the intercooler mocked up, still have t make and mount brackets to the oil cooler supports. Might flip the cooler around too to bring it up some, I flipped it around to get the lines on the right side but its not as low as it looks in the pics. Its dirty as all hell too, making me consider just buying another core that will fit in the wheel well:

I cut the last bend off the hotpipe as it was set up for a T28, and cut a few inches off the stock hotpipe, then asked Decker really nicely if he could weld it for me. It was an offer he couldnt refuse.

Also got the new BMC and booster installed with the non-ABS lines, tightened up the battery relocation, cleaned up the lower harness a TON, and pulled in the slcack on the engine harness to get it out of the bay. Getting really close now, more pics and an update tomorrow.

What are you running for a radiator? you know a Koyo SR radiator fits perfectly if you mount it vertical where you have the intercooler. I have a LS1 RX7 and a SR 240 and played around with the sr koyo. just some food for thought if you have yet to decide on an radiator. also where do you plan on mounting a radiator? behind the intercooler? I ask because where are you gonna mount a fan?

Honestly you ve inspired me into swaping my sr into my rx7 shell that I have laying around. Im deffently gonna keep up with this post. Good Luck with everything it looks great

Thanks homie, and ya radiator is going right behind the intercooler with a bracket from rail to rail and some ties on the top. Should have that all done this week some time. Its crazy but ya, S13 SR radiators fit it perfectly, even have enough room for e-fans with the way it sits now. Let me know if you have any questions about the swap, I have all the details stored in my head and want to get stuff like wiring and **** down on paper eventually.

this is funny i have a gazillion friends with SRs and they're getting out of them and switching to 2jz and here you are doing a SR swap. hey you know what that's your liking and everyone is different. all the best.

SR's in 240's Im assuming? 2J's are pretty flippin sweet but not really what i was going for here. Besides, who needs 500whp with just a 60-1 and an EBC?

well some of them did the 240 2jz swap others did the swap in AE86 and pickup trucks. and you're telling me you wouldn't want 500hp that easily? ok.

hahaha of course I would, that wouldnt be too bad at all Ya SR's are pretty universal. Nice motor, nice aftermarket, 6 wires and it runs in anything. Good candidate for any swap.

Got the radiator and intercooler buttoned up today, think I might have a hard time finding a top hose. Cold pipe is a work in progress.

I got my tach signal figured out, had to run it off the 180* signal from the CAS since Nissan decided to try and be special with the SR rpm setup. Once that was done I realized I didnt have any more wiring to do on the inside so I installed the ECU and kick panel and layed the carpet back down. It looks weird, hadnt seen floor on that side of the car for a few months

Also got the MAFS and O2 wires extended, loomed and tied away. Overall not a bad day at all, I got to rev above 2500 and test the BOV too.

This is how I did the tach, although you could do it a number of ways I guess.

Basically you need to provide the 180* CAS signal from the SR harness to the Y/L wire that is in the trailing coil connector on the front harness (NOT the check connector, although that would work too. I used the coil harness plug itself so that i could keep the check connector for diagnostics). The FC cluster gets the rpm signal from this wire, so supplying a tach signal to it works fine. You cant use the standard SR20 Y/R wire from the dash plug since it is positive voltage only and you need a pulse signal.

What I did was solder a wire in-line to pin 22 on the SR20 ECU and ran it to the FC ECU plug, connecting it to one of the other wires that went to the trailing coil pack (I cant remember which wire it was off-hand but it should be pretty easy to find in using the OEM wiring books. i think it was one of the trailing coil signal wires. I simply cut the wire at the FC ECU plug and connected the two, obviously Im not planning to run a 13B anymore so it didnt bother me ). Once I had that connected I tested continuity from the SR ECU plug to the trailing coil plug and it was good. Then, I cut the tach signal wire going to the cluster (Y/L) and connected it to the other wire coming from the FC ECU plug.

Essentially I used the FC wiring to get the singal over there, so that i wasnt running loose wires all over the place. it was just cleaner for me, although technically you could jump a wire from pin 22 on the SR ECU directly to the back of the cluster and it would work fine. The way i did it was a little cleaner and allowed me to use the check connector like OEM, which i like.

For the speedo, surprisingly enough the FC speed sensor goes right into the SR tranny, and my speedo cable reached fine to connect to the sensor. the only 'gitcha' was the mounting hole for the sensor needed to be opened up a bit, maybe 1-2mm max. I havent driven the car yet but i cant imagine it not working, its all mechanical.

JJ.

You're doing awesome man. I just got the LS out of the car today and I'm getting it all prepped. I'll have the mounts and radiator in along with everything I need to button it up very soon. I look forward to coming down again. As soon as the other garage space filler is fixed. soon soon.

I would take the head off and check for internal damage. Most JDM SR20s are notorious for having heads overtightened, or scoring cam journals, etc. Would be a good time to do a proper metal head gasket too (as these engines need it).
