s15 silvia engine in a FD
I had tooken a look at this and at first i was like what the hell are you thinking puting that engine in the beautiful fd. YOu know that is one of the most stupid things ive ever seen. then as i was reading it had saw the reason why? It seemed that he blown the 2rotor 4 times already and wanted power with reliability, so the car makes 560hp and runs the QM at 10.47 (dont know how fast). but it makes me think a little, Ya taking out the 2 rotor would be a dissapointment but the car is reliable, so give me your opinions about it?

Thats an old car, been around for a while. Its a cool idea, and it got good times, but IMO, an RX7 needs to be piston-less.
And to all the following posters, please dont make this thread another Piston VS Rotary thread.

Most of the people here will tell you that removing the 13B-REW and replacing it with ANY different engine is sacreligous. But, the fact of the matter is, the SR20DE(T) is probably one of the most stout and capable engines out there. It's no "worse" a choice than a V8 or Miata engine.

Turbo Sylvia in BMW Z3 - Expecting 375-400 HP
My friend is just finishing this swap - using aftermarket turbo, custom building the intake and exhaust systems, very big intercooler. Some of the Z3s had a straight 6, so the engine bay is very roomy. Pretty tight near the steering, and the pan had to have the sump relocated to clear the crossmember.

As for swapping motors into RX7's... People put V8's in 240sxes and Miatas too. To each their own.

I say if its fast, do what cha like. If every one had a 13brew tt fd it would be boring. I mean its no 60s classic ferrari that has a 2jz in it. Some people want to just explore new ideas rather than porting there motors and running rich on fuel. Would you hate me if i had a supercharged ls1 in my fd. You probly would, but remember, Its my car and i can do what ever i want.

whats all this crap about srs? They kinda are over rated. If your gonna waste your time with any thing other than a 20b use a 3sgte. That motor is killer. Im totally not biased toward toyota, but that 3sg just kicks ***. A 600hp isnt uncommon for an MR2 but a 600 SR is. Just seems like its worth the extra effort. I dont think its been done either.

uh, I guess I'd just do an LS1FD. there are mount kits out for it, there is incredible power potential with the 347 cubic inches and 350hp stock... um, forgot to mention that the new 7 liter Corvette Z06 motor with 500hp (STOCK!) uses a block casting with the same outside dimensions as the LS1. Oh yeah, the LS1 barely adds any weight to the FD, unlike an inline-6 swap or toyota/nissan turbo motors that have an iron block bottom end.
someone said by swapping in a piston motor you'd be "dishonoring the rx7" lol, thats funny... I think that only by keeping it stock or ricing it out with stickers you'd be dishonoring it. All of the LS1 rx7's that I've seen are incredible cars with ridiculous power and great handling... even mine

Very well said Owen.
I'm planning on getting an FD next year once my S14 240sx is done, and haven't decided whether to stay with the Rotary or put an LS1 in it. I'll just keep lurking the forums until I have the car and $ to make up my mind.

^^Nice personally I'm planning on getting a 3 rotor engine, I'm not saying this to offend anyone. I know that the LS1 is more reliable than any rotary engine, but in my opinion if u want an LS1 get a domestic car. I know theres alot of people in the club that have done LS1's conversions done to their sevens, and I'm not hating on them, I'm just saying what I believe. Because if there's anything that sets us seven owners apart from every other car, is that beautiful rotary engine; regardless its problems I STILL LOVE IT

heres what I believe... I dont think you'd love your own rx7 any less if it had a 350 hp, 6 speeed LS1 in it when you jump into it tomorrow morning... especially if the install was clean... think about it, no external modifications required, nobody would ever know by just looking at your rx7.... how cool is that?

I read that the 6 speed trannies in the silvia are the same that are in the miata and rx-8.
I never considered putting a piston engine in my car..... until i blew my motor... maybe it's not such a bad idea! haha
