Motor Options? What will fit in an FC

Anyone know of motor swaps for the FC that will fit?

Looking ot do up a OT car.

I know the 13B & 20B will but I want to go a little wilder.

Motors I am looking at:
GM LS1 V8 (seems most popular)
GM ZZ4 V8
GM 3800 Series II Supercharged V6
Ford 5.0 HO V8
BMW 3.2L Straight 6
S2000 2.0 I4
Nissan 2.5L TT, (Skyline)

..............and so on.

Does anyoen know or have links to people that have done conversions.

that rb25det is a bitch to get in a 240sx let alone an rx7. It has the turbo on the wrong side so i think the steering knuckle on the rx7 WILL get into the way... you can trim the 240 knuckle.

I think the supra engine into the rx7 was probably the coolest swap... much better then the v8 or v6.....

just my .02

I was thinking of putting a B-series honda engine swap in the future... I found a rear-wheel drive tranny for it, so all that would need to be figure out is to make a different intake manifold, distributorless ignition, and a few other things.

The company that makes the rwd tranny can either give you a sequential or h-pattern with clutch.

would a sequential be unstreetable?

Or he could find a way to swap in a SR20, or a CA. Lots of party time with those Nissan engnes.

A supra 7M-GTE would be a nice swap, but the engine may be a little tall, and you may have to bang out the fire wall... Which is not a good thing. But makes 230'ish stock at the clutch :O, and that's on stock boost.

If you're going to go to an engine other than rotary, and you have the $$ and know-how, I vote LSI with a T-56 tranny all the way. Even an LT1 would be great. I was (still considering..) thinking of the LT-1 swap myself. Aluminum head LT-1 , with removed A/C and P/S, can come out to weigh as much or less than a rotary engine , and a LS1 is almost guaranteed to weigh slightly more forward, and slightly up higher, but nothing that you should even be concerned about. With even a stock LT1 configuration, you will be running mid 13s all day long. Mildly modded 11s (provided traction) would be no problem, and it will still handle just as well as ever.. Just my $.02 Even though Id love to do this, it still doest have the "feel" that a rotary does. Thats why I have not done it myself..

Man, don't put a honda engine in there. PLease....

There are way better options. I personally favor the I6 swap. But don't trow a Honda engine in there, especially a b-series, its only going to make you slower for the amount of mone your going to spend on it.

Well I have a brand new LS1 that I can get for $3000, no miles. Came out of a ZL-1 Camaro from the factory. I am pretty familar with the LS1 and the T-56 as I currently have a '99 1LE Z28, and have had a '98 C5. so that is most logical. Really like the motor, torque, power, and light weight (for a v8)

I have an extra T-5 laying around. So that makes the 5.0 easy, and I have a friend that has a S303 5.0 for $800 if I want it.

I really like the ZZ4, Carbed, so no electronics BS, makes 375hp and 405ft lbs for $3500, aluminum with everything except the carb.

The car will run in EM for Solo2. So N/A and big torque, and big rubber is most appealing.

I want to stick with v8, staight 6, or a turbo'd car.

My current local cometiton are full EM cars, non-streetable. A 383 Stoker 240Z, really throws down the power. And a 1600lb gutted Miata with a N/A 3-Rotor that is mounted in the passenger footwell, and makes 260 rwhp, through a homemade widebody kit.

Normally I wouldn't do this to a RX-7, but I got thsi one for free from a junkyward, and was a POS when it started out.

My dad has a stock FD RX-7 with 23k on it, only uses it to run Super Stock in Solo2 Events. I love that car!

if it is an LS-1 from a ZL-1 then it is the same as all f-body LS-1's the C5R from the ZL-1's is something different all together though. so are you sure that it was from a ZL-1 or did you mean a Z-28?

just curious

Well you definetly know your F-bodies. Here is how it works. GM when the built the ZL-1's removed alot of the stock parts instead of just modifying them. So yes it is a stock LS1 that I am trying to get like the stock Z28's had. But they are new and have no miles on them. Only factory test stand runs. So he woudl sell a brand new LS1 to me for $3000, vs. $5500+ from GMPartsDirect.com

All the cars started out as Z-28's from teh line, then like the SS were "Modded at the factory". (SLP did it for GM for the 1LE, SS, and the WS6. Stock items were remoded like the brakes, engines, suspension, etc.

They pulled the OEM LS1 and swapped in the punched out 427 from the C5-R.

Well when you buy a ZL-1 you not only get the compeltely set up and modded car. But GM gives you all the OEM parts that were on the car. And they should since a ZL-1 sells for shy of $100,000.

The guy who has the motors has 2 complete ZL-1 setups, from 2002. If anyone wants to look at his site I can post it.

supposing you do the v8 swap, what rear end would you choose and why? and what transmission / driveshaft. I'm coming on a t2 body with no drivetrain and i'm considering a v-8 (as any thing else) I was considering the L98 engine with the t-56 transmission and undecided on the rear-end.

SO that you wouldn't have to do alot of swapping. Maybe get a RX-7 spec Torsen limited slip. They will hold up to about anything. Proabbly run 4.10 gears like stock. The Camaro 3.42's are way too LONG. Like 52 in 1st and 77 in 2nd. I wouldl like the 2-3 shity tto com ein at about 65+ Like the ZO6 tranny.

I have heard rumors that The T-Bird Super Coupe rear end works really well. That is what the Monster Miata guys use in 5.0 conversions.

For now I would just run the stock 4.10's with thestock LSD.

For drive shaft, you have to have it custom made since you willl have diffren splines and diffrent legth than stock. THere are lot of comapnies that make custom drive shafts and they'll make them out of anything from steel to carbon fiber, just depends on who deep your pockets are.

Define "fit". With cutting... Without cutting/hammering. Sticking out of the hood. With factory hood. Oh yah. Fit could mean a lot of different things.

may want to check out Torquecentral.com Forum there has lots of info on american V-8 and V-6 mods.

I personally wouldn't go with an american engine. But that's me.
