Miata 1.8 swap into an 84 GSL.. Possible?!?
Anyone ever seen a miata motor swapped into an FB? just seeing if its been done, I cant find anything about it.
Blasphemy, I know... but I have the motor, and it would be a daily driven car.
Looks like it would be an easy swap IF the motor will fit over the cross member.
Thanks for any information.

Im just worried that the 1.8 Miata Motor may not clear the crossmember on the FB. seems like if it will clear, all would need to be done are the motor/ tranny mounts, and driveshaft.
Im also worried about the exhaust: the 12A dumps on the psgr side of the car, and the transmission tunnel is made for the exhaust to fit along that side.
The miata's exhaust header is on the drivers side, meaning I need to find a place to cross the exhaust under the transmission/ driveshaft/ etc. I dont think it could fit along the drivers side.

well the SBC has headers on both sides. the only difference is at the rear where there is no cut out at the bumper and the gastank is in the way.
still unsure with the crossmember question tho

Whats the issue? this is a 1st or second gen ?
If your not worried about cutting into the firewall run a custom header with a downpipe style setup that runs behind the engine to where you need it...
I dont have any pictures but i will soon... basicly im building a tunnel thriught the firewall (like a tranny tunnel) from one side tot he other im working with an FC and i havent run into any problems.. Just make sure you have a mig welder (at least) that can handle low heat welds...
And im using sheetmetal from lowes with regular tape on 2" insulation
It worked for my Ford 2.3t Miata .....

not so much an issue... just whether or not people think it would be worth the $$$ to put the miata motor in (auto-x would run SM2 with Miata motor, or MOD with a v-8)
I was thinking about using a RESPEED crossmember/steering rack. without a steering rack, the miata motor would be WAY to high up in the bay.. i would raise the center of gravity a bit, and need to make a 4" cowl hood. With a rack, the motor will fit perfectly...
but at that point, should I just sell my Miata motor/trans (normally around $1200 on Miata.net) and put a V-8 or 13b?
just trying to see if anyone else thinks its worthwhile...

I think you should worry about what you want instead of what everyone else wants...
