I have a 95 JDM 13Btt motor and I want to put it into my 79 rx7. I have been trying to find things about the swap on the net but have had no luck. If anyone has done this swap or knows where I can get into or buy a kit please pm me and let me know I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

 

I have a suggestion. Swap a V8 in instead. Youll solve all the parts availability and reliability issues in one step and save money. Ebay the rotary and it very well may pay for the swap. Theres a man named Romeo in NYC that did this very swap..took him years to get it right. Do you want to spend that kind of time/money or drive the car in a few months? Thats my suggestion take it or leave it,but if you dont like it remember you asked and also posted this in the V8 section.

 

custom motor and trans mounts as well as the drive shaft. then rewire the entire car to use the stock ECU or a stand alone ECU. add a high pressure fuel pump and return line to the fuel tank. custom radiator, intercooler, and oil cooler. I would imagine it is far easier to swap the V8. I would imagine the cost is why most people don't do this swap.

 

Its really not as bad as you think. You can reuse a lot of the parts,the radiator if its in good shape..the oil cooler too. All RX-7's already have a return line and thats reused too. Even carbed first gems have a return line. The rewiring is almost all under the hood...if you swap in a carbed engine its very simple. In fact Id say the wiring is easier than wiring in a twin turbo 3rd gen motor. Intercooler...I have yet to see a stock turbo V8 but dosnt mean they dont exist...maybe in something exotic? The driveshaft is simple to make...but most people do have a shop make one and its not too expensive. The custom mounts are the easiest part you just spend 350.00 and buy them from Grannys. I sold my rotary and it completely covered my swap. Otherwise I wouldnt suggest it to anyone else.

 

I was talking about the 3rd gen swap. the V8 would be simpler and less expensive in my opinion.

 

Misunderstood you tims. A goog friend stopped by with his nice clean T2 last night. We took it for a spirited back road drive. Honestly I was disappointed,it wasnt nearly as fast as I had hoped. My first Gem with the LT-1 is a lot faster. The cars cannot be compared,even tho the T2 has better suspension. He's a good friend so I didnt tell him this. I started up my car and showed him the completed swap..(first time he saw it complete). I elected not to take him for a drive as he would have been gravly disappointed in his own car after riding in mine.

 

A 1G also weighs less than T-II's, even with a big block in it.

Also, dude, you should have. Its better to show someone the truth instead of letting them pick their facts based on their beliefs. Id rather be corrected than "right" and a dumbass without a clue, and most people would too.

 

Nihilanthic, Maybe your right. But Im in the process of moving to North Carolina and that was the last time I was to see him. So didnt want to be a A$$. I'll be towing the RX-7 on a tow dolly and wondering since its automatic if I should remove the driveshaft? I dont want to tow it with the rear wheels strapped on the dolly because the front is a bit lower with a nice air dam...worried it may scrape on big bumps. Anyone done this before?

Uh, I havent towed anything personally, but I dont see why you cant just pop it into neutral.

 

yes i highly suggest removing the driveshaft, not just leaving it in neutral, most (all that i have worked on) autos have the fluid pump at the front of the trans and isn't connected directly to the output shaft, so if you spin the DS the pump doesn't circulate fluid.

also check the diff has the right fluid level.

 

Thanks Phiber, I just drained and filled the diff with amsoil. I understand what you mean out the fluid pump. I'll be taking it on a 700 mile trip so to be safe I'll just remove the driveshaft.

 

what part of nc you moving to?

 

Highpoint just outside Greensboro. Is that close to you? Seems theres a lot of guys with interesting project cars in NC.
