FC + SVX flat 6 and BLOWER..........
That's right, an FC with the subaru 6 cylinder SVX engine and a little belt driven boost, man I want to try this swap just for the head shaking 'holy ****' factor and smooooooth torque delivery.
The LS1 is so standard now, even though it works so well. It doesn't even need anything like a blower to make it rock, where's the challenge in that?
It might be possible to steal the entire drivetrain and make it AWD, lol.

You can fit a Lincoln dohc 4.6 v8 in an FC engine bay, a subaru pancake motor might fit but I haven't checked its dimensions yet. But yeah, SVX engines are cheap as dirt, we're talking $500 for less than 100k miles, ECU and all (not that I'd keep it, heh).

The arguement might have been made in the 50s, why start with a small block Chevy when my flat head Ford will make the same power when I add a blower?
Suby motor is 220hp? Ford 302 (or SBC, LS1, etc) will beat it for HP and torque with a much easier installation. Aftermarket stuff for flat 6 Suby ---->0. Aftermarket stuff for 302 (or SBC, LS1, etc)----00 (infinity).
High volume = lower cost.

You can make a 302 make 400 hp all natural with a set of AFR heads, a real intake (most intakes have intake runners that are too long and thus restrict high rpm torque and power) and tube headers... on the *STOCK* Cam. Stroke it to 347 and you have... 450~ hp, all natural. LS1s have made 400 and over N/A to the *WHEELS* with minor mods at stock displacement levels, and you can re-sleeve it or stroke it out to make it displace more. :P
Also, I have no idea how much the bottom end of that H6 can take, and where you could find stronger cranks/rods/pistons for it. Im also pretty sure the aftermarket for cams and heads are nonexistant :P Get a 2.5 H4 and get a bore or stroke to 2.6, and there ya go. Same displacement as the rotary, just as smooth, much more thermodynamic efficiency, and probably more aftermarket because the WRX finally made it to our shores

Trust me Jeff. The "Challenge" is not all its cracked up to be. The fact that you could turn the LS1 drivetrain swap around over a 3 day weekend is a good thing. Having your car sit on stands for 10 months while you fabricate is not.

LOL that reminds me - accessories such as P/S, A/C, the steering rack, bumpsteer, etc, all that **** is very well supported and there are people to ask at torquecentral with these swaps. Ive gone without AC for a LONG ******* time and having it working is ******* nice. Holy **** you have no idea how good it is until you deal with some 100 degree days without it and get USED TO IT, then go back to AC. DAMN.
Plus you can make a ton of power easy as hell with a ford sbc or a chevy sbc/lt1/ls1 :P

Yeah I think I'll stick with LS power if I ever finally give up on rotaries. I'm getting close to firing up my screw charged 6 port for the first time and it might seduce me away from pistons, or it might pop.

Yes my latest port revision is taking some real abuse without anything going wrong. One stretch of road where I used to take it up to 130 is where it always popped a side seal at the top of 4th at 7500 rpm, but it takes it fine now. It idles damn near rock solid without the BACV on a rough megasquirt tune (I ditched the stock ECU).

dont let the ''theory'' of the project get in your way. build an LS1FC and you wont be asking questions, you'll be out driving the hell out of it and almost scaring yourself silly.
seriously, these cars are freakin' NUTS!

Don't get me wrong, I think it would be excellent.
I've been trying to figure out if I could cram an EJ20 into an FD for quite a while now, but I recently came to the conclusion that the motors were just *too*darn*wide*
The upside of the boxers is that they're short (lengthwise) and short (heightwise), and pretty light, but they are *very* wide for a 4...
If you've got hard data on the width of the bay between the shock towers and at the lower suspension pickup points, I'd love to see it. Most of what data I have I've had to infer from stuff I can find on the web, or interpolate from the dimensions of the 13b, etc. I stopped short of buying an FD just to take measurements on!

ohh ohh i have an idea. A volkswagen motor. like the olds ones in the bugs ive seen them make 400hp and be driven everyday. hes what you do starout with a 1600cc motor stroke it and bore it to 2500cc. and you got like 200hp there put a twin turbo on it and bam a light good on gas cheap motor. these bug motors are so cheap its not even funny you can buy a pinched out motor for as much as a rotory rebuild. but you know thats just my .02

I guess what I mean to say is, neither boxer will likely fit, though if it COULD be made to fit, the modern Subaru engine would last quite a bit longer than a built-to-the-hilt vw motor...

I used to own an SVX and thought the motor was fantastic. It has a ton of low end grunt and sounds more exotic than a porsche flat 6 at high rpm. It sounds NOTHING like any other Subaru I've heard. I think it would be tough to fit that into an rx7 engine bay because, due to the horizontal layout, it is very wide.
