The SR20DET is a very nice engine, but there are MUCH better candidates out there. IMO, on of the greatest engines of all time is the Buick turbo 3.8 V6 in the mid 80's Grand National. A very nice engine thats probably stronger than the overbuilt Supra or SR20 engines. That engine is capable of over 400hp reliably without any major internal mods, and they have the torque of a V8 in a much smaller and lighter package. The greatest thing is, it swaps in using Granny's chevy V6 kit making it an easy upgrade for a lot of power.

Pardon my ignorance, but the sr20det is the turbocharged nissan silvia motor, correct? Imports are rather strange with all those letters!

Any mods on the motor?

Kev

This swap is after having a Chevy 350/T5 in there for ~5years. Believe me, the last thing FB's need is alot of torque LOL.

When I think Buick 3.8turbo I think straigt line automatic tranny type "fun". Believe it or not though, I DO have a 2001 3.8GM v6 & T-5 in my SA right now. I stopped that swap because I think that's better suited for my toyota truck with a dead 22R in front of my house and I had to get another DD.

I went with the SR for these reasons

Driveability... so far it feels like my old -SE. Shifter feels good (for stock) and clutch pedal effort is like stock (using stock 7 MC and Nissan Slave... had to make a custom line for it)
Light wieght... as compared to my all cast iron SBC
It cost about the same or less than a good 13B Turbo swap (I was ***this close*** to going back to wankel power)
Gas milage... I'm trying to get this into my DD line up
And the aftermarket support is good now with dime a dozen SR/240s.

FYI, they moved this thread from the 1st gen section so that's why there's two threads here. Funny, I think this is info allot of 1st genners would like to see and it's just a link. If the mod how moved this can tell me why, I'd like to know.
