Beginning of the GNX-FD

Well ive successfully had my v8 fd for a couple months now daily driven.but i have now seen it is not what im looking for.i love the torquey power band and mad acceleration.but the feeling im lookin for is just not there.plus i want to clear up some space under the hood.so ive decided to go with the v6 turbo motor.it has a turbo which i have been missing.it will push the motor back behind the steering rack and im sure will be lighter.
plus it has less of a crank to throw around which is what is really getting on my nerves.

first step find a gnx front clip.rare and expensive.

remove lt1

redo k-member.

simplify electronics and remove a bunch of unnecessary crap out of the way i left behind with the v8.

let it begin.

why don't you just turbocharge the LT1?

for all the reasons above.v8 wont spin up as fast.im an rpm fanatic.less room and more weight.ive also thought about going the 9 inch rear to simplify it out back.to do this i will go to willwood brake adjuster and get rid of the ABS system.

9" rear what the hell for man? There are quite a few other options out there that are lighter. Besides that the 3.8 turbo auto will be much kinder on a rear than a manual. Your stock rear will last quite some time with an auto.

There probably isnt much difference in weight between the LT1 and the 3.8 Buick Turbo. the Lt1 has aluminum heads, and the buick makes up the weight difference with a turbo and intercooler, as well as having cast heads. Put a cam heads and intake on the LT1.

so far ive found it fun trying to find a buick turbo engine for a decent price or period.

maybe i shoud just go with a 98 camaro 3.8l front clip for like 800 bucks and turbo it.

If you are dead set on it GNX7 and his group on the torquecentral forum will locate and possibly have the complete deal for you. A stock LT1 really doesnt like 4.10 gears and 25" tall tires. You need make the engine breathe a bit more. 6500 rpm will make you happier.

With the LT1 that you are currently using, what kind of transmission are you using and whats the size of the diffential?

The LS1 likes to breathe up top better than the LT1, but there isnt any reason that you cant make the LT do much more for about 2500 bucks, which would be cheaper than the 3.8 turbo and chip and intercooler to make that much power. I'm not tyying to knock the 3.8, but they are all as old as the hills and probably need to be freshened up before spending any money on the aftermarket goods that will make some good power.

a little info on the GN engine.... it doesn't like to rev past 5400rpm without a cam swap and ported heads. It truly makes peak torque at around 3400-3600rpm and a stock engine will suffice to put any 2800lb car into the low 10's with traction. You just need to add turbo $700 for mid 10's.... $1K for low low 10's), injectors 50lb MSD's (good for low 10's), chip $50, FMIC ($600-1200 depending upon type and if you can fabricate the piping). Downpipe/exhaust $400-800 same as above. Voila... some tuning and now you have a hell machine.

T78... where are you located? I have a complete GN drivetrain in good running order.

BTW- The LT1 with ported heads/cam and good exhaust and new tuning can easily make 425hp+ with stock shortblock. I suggest you investigate this before reinventing the wheel on your car. A lot less work as there are no GN engine/trans mount kits... you have to make your own junk.

What transmission do you run? The T56 would allow you run on the top end..... the auto will run out of breath at around 120mph and stock LT1.

One last note: prepped LT1 engines with forged internals are much cheaper to build than LS1's.... and they are making 1000rwhp in turbo/supercharged form in many Camaros going low 9's in 3800lb behemouths. The LT1 with mods is a very capable engine.
