3sgte would be really sweet - not sure how you would mount it inline and what tranny you would use, but if you do figure it all out, please post it up Of course you could start spending some real money and those problems aren't existent then. I'm talking true backyard mechanic work here! haha

I think you'll find that you're dumping a lot of money into something that was suppose to be an economical swap to begin with.

The 2jz is nice, but the problem is it's extremely tall compared to the 13b that came in the fd - Most people talk about how the engine sitting lower changes the suspension geometry and therefore affects a lot of the bump steer. I won't go into details because I'm simply not educated enough in the fd suspension geometry, but i'm sure a quick search will reveal what I'm talking about.

Good luck either way - I'd love to see a true economical 3sgte swap though!

Why a 3SGTE?

If you want to put in a 4cyl. that has potential, put in a flippin' SR20DET.

Cheap motor, cheap mods, good torque, decent bottom end.

Take it from a guy who has owned an AllTrac with a 3SGTE. They are fast. They are about 206 HP. If you mod it correctly, they will go way faster. In an RX-7, though, I see no reason to put it in here. Having the ability to put a bigger engine in, I wouldn't recommend wasting time with a 3S. I'd put a 20B in. You can get 800+ for the 3S, put it towards a 20B.

3sgte is a great engine. And probably better than an sr20det.

Mr2's and altessa's have these engines besides all-trac celicas. Altessa i believe had somewhere around 200 bhp stock n/a 2.0.

but 800hp? 3sgte can buddy, check it.

.....

I'd much rather have an SR20 over a 3SGTE...

Now if I owned a USDM Celica, and I wanted to make it an Alltrac/GT-FOUR, then by all means, a 3rd generation 3SGTE would kickass....but I think the idea of putting one in an RX-7, regardless of the generation, is just stupid.

An SR20 would be so much easier to install. Parts are cheap, motor is cheap, mods are cheap, yada yada.

sr20 cheap!!!? You are nuts man. I know of many motors that are wayy cheaper and better than an sr20det .Just about everyone i know has crushed the gay stock oil pan or over reved and ruined their sr20's.

If you have the money go 3sgte.
If you dont. Stay with rotaries and just learn to build your own motors. I just bough a 12a for 200$ all stock. Going to be learning a lot here shortly.

SR20s are overrated.

Looking for a reliable 4-cylinder? It's hard to beat the 4g63. And it just so happens that some of them bolt up to the Mazda B2600 bellhousing, which can be used with the TII tranny...

800 whp with a 4g63 is becoming damn near easy these days. I haven't been on rx7club for a while, but I'm sure coltboostin's car is on here somewhere. He built a 4g-powered FC.

the 4g's reliability and strength is nothing but a joke when compared to the 3s-gte. hands down, bottom line, brass tax, since the eclipse and celica were around together the celica (gt-four) has always been more reliable with more forged internal parts on the powertrain.
