2rz/3rz swaps

I have heard some rotary heads in the racing field are messing around with 2rz/3rz toyota tacoma motors. Iron block aluminum head and alot less weight than a 1jz and 2jz motors. Seems like a possible contender to swap in.
What do you guys think?
here is a video I found of a starlet.

4 cylinder engines. 2.4 liter 2rz and 2.7 for the 3rz. Dohc heads. The only drawback is the rods and pistons dont take more than 350hp. You can get a special bellhousing and use the r154 tranny too.
Weight would be the only benefit over a JZ engine I think.

yep thats the only thing that I dont like about the JZ motors. If I do it I will go with the 1jz. It is a tad shorter than the 2jz. Almost the same power potential.
I havent even cracked open my 13b motor to see whats wrong with it. Its my first rotary, but contemplating money and longevity and reliability of 13b gets me thinking into a swap. I just have to make up my mind.

I know it has a blown apex seal. This how much it should cost me to do what want with this car.

1300 for rebuild kit, hopefully the irons, housings and rotor can be reused.
2000 for single turbo kit
1500 for haltech ecu E8 1200 for the E6x
400-500 for tuning.
700 for fuel requirements
400 for ignition requirements.
500 for clutch kit
= around $7000
doing all the work myself. All that for 400 hp that I want. Stock turbos are shot.

1Jz swap basics.
2500 for swap kit
2200 for motor and r154 tranny, ecu and harness.
220 for gaskets and seals
add another 1000 for other bullshits, just to get the car running.
= around $6000
doing all the work myself. All that for 320hp.

Damn now that I think about it my pockets are not that deep. Ha ha
I am gonna have sell my wife. ha ha

you can pick up a stock ls2 for reasonable price, with t56 and harness and ecu, throw a cam in it for 300-400 bucks. and you can put down around 400-450 hp

i personally think the ls motors kick your typicall v8 sterotypes outa the watter. they arent some big heavy monster that the olds ones were, and you can still get good rpms's outa these things with the right cam/intake setup. good reliability with good hp, hard to argue with

Yeah I know the potential those motors have, but I guess is just preference on my part. Always loved the sound and power of the jz engines. Dont really hate the V8s.
Dont get me wrong if there was no swap kit for the jz engines I was thinking of a ls motor.
Trying to keep it all jdm.

I spoke with him many times and actually was talking about doing this swap in my fd.. its still on the drawing board but money is a factor and i already have most of the stuff to do a ls1 swap, id go the 2rz route if i could sell all my stuff or just had the money laying around.. i think its cool

What the price on a RZ motor?

FOr way less money you can go nissan ka24de. BOttom end has held 400+ with turbo kits.

MOtor is hella cheap to buy. My friend bought one a few months back for 100$ 75,000 miles on it.

Cast turbo manifold is about 130$ used and they are everywhere.

Well stuff went down hill after I bought the car from you. Work got really slow, ended up getting laid off. Plus weather sucks right now. I dont have a dedicated garage for it. Sometimes I think I shouldnt of bought the car, but oh well.
I am really a meticulous person so the build is gonna take a while.
I already took most of the car apart.
One thing I didnt notice about the car when I bought from you is that it had some sort of hit on the driver side. You can tell by gap between the door and bottom frame. Also someone put a spacer on the bottom door hinge to make the door flush with body. Then, there is the other hit on the drivers side that needs alot of attention. I already have most of the body parts for that. Had to order them from japan .
So I need good sum of money to get body fixed to my liking.
After that I have to worry about either rebuilding the motor, or just swap it out with a 1jz.
Those are my plans for it.
