There is lots of time and money that need to go into this build. A build like this can take several months depending on your fabricator. My build took me just about 2 years total to get a street driving 700whp car. Here is some pricing info based on similar numbers I spent on my build.
Parts
2jzgte motor (No Tranny)- $1600
R154 Transmission- $1000-$1500
Shifter Extension- $300
Clutch and Flywheel- $1000-$1500
Custom Driveshaft- $400
Radiator, hoses and fans- $500
Wiring- $900
Standalone ECU (optional, you can run factory fd and 2jz ecu together if on factory twins)-$1500
Tech 2 Hood (Needed because its Highly Recommended not to modify your steering rack.)- $1000
Motor Refresh (gaskets and seals)- $400
Custom Intercooler and piping-$700
Blow off valve-$250
AC Lines- $300
Power steering lines-$200
Fuel lines-$300
Fuel pump (X2 if you want dual)-$150
Misc Expenses (Fluids, Clamps, lines, fittings, etc)- $250
Fabrication
Modify Subframe, Custom Tranny Mount, Custom radiator and intercooler mounts, refresh motor, install clutch, drop in motor, misc welding. etc...
This can be anywhere in the $3,000-$6,000 range depending on your fabricator labor rates.
Total cost to be on stock twins at the 400hp range is about $15,000 to build correctly. Obviously if you want to make more power (Single Turbo, Large injectors, Rear end swap, tuning), the build can surpass the $20,000 mark easily. Many people have chosen to go with the Tech 2 Swap kit and it works great as well. This will cut down the time to build, plus reduce install related costs as you can get away with doing it yourself.

2jz cheap
Where are people finding cheap vvti motors? The lowest I've found is $3k. Anyone know a reputable place to order one? Going to rebuild internals anyway.

Try to stay non-vvti for ease of finding replacement parts and tuning. Also, there is no need to rebuild the internals on 2jz engines. Just replace the Headgasket with an OEM new one and install all new seals. If you want to do ARP studs while you are in there also go ahead. Nothing more. Proper Tuning is the life of the engine.
