2jz Swap Pricing

Ok, I know there are a few people on here who have done a 2jz swap in they're car and I was wondering if you would be able to give me an estimate on what the swap cost you to do.

I really want to do this to my FD because I need reliability because it is my only car and I do alot of driving with the car.

All I'm looking for in terms of budget is just getting everything in and working.

Would 10k be a fair estimate?

Thanks for your time.

ByeByeSti 02-11-10 03:34 PM

thats about my guess.. Tech2motorsports.com sells the parts for the swaps and can supply everything you need for the swap. its just a very expensive swap. are you plannig on using the getrag6speed? or r154 with 2jz belhousing and having it be 5 speed? or are you going to run auto? thats a big question, the 6speed increases the cost of everything by 4k+ but it is damn near bulletproof.

id say 10k+

WiredRebel 02-12-10 11:27 AM

My plan is to run the r154 to start out and when I plan on reaching the power I want out of the swap I will run a gtreg.

I'm hoping to undertake this swap next winter so now comes the hoping and praying that everything works out for me and I can save enough money for this.

Ive spent about 15k on the swap and still have 2k to go but i did the jdm 2jz vvti and going single turbo. With a stock 2jz and tech2's swap parts and a r154 you can spend around 10k to 13k depending on condition of parts and if you go with name brand stuff.

exactly!

also youll have to go single i believe.. last i remember you cannot fit stock twin set up in the fd chassis.

reaper60606@aol.com 02-16-10 04:29 PM

That actually is a myth, You can use the stock twins easily in the FD rx7 and it is cheaper to do. Single turbo will put a hell of alot more room in the engine bay though and will be easier to manage. Gas lines are in the perfect spot, and so is downpipe to midpipe. There is no mod to the chasis what so ever exept the lip on the fire wall does need to be bent down with a 2jz. a 1jz doesnt reqire the lip to be bent down. the reason for the lip to be bent down for a 2jz is for the heater line hose and this cant be blocked off. The front bumper will also need to be modified for the intercooler piping. A 3in intercooler will be easier to use but if you want more air density intake a 4in core is better which i am using and tech 2 sells this as their intercooler kit

WiredRebel 02-17-10 01:37 AM

Well I've been talking to reaper and I'm going to start saving my pennies and do the swap next winter.

I would love to keep the rotor but seeing as how I work for minimum wage and this is my only car I need a reliable motor.

I'm planning on a typical 2jz gte with an r154 all stock. Should be fun. WOo

reaper60606@aol.com 02-17-10 02:17 PM

If you want a little more space in your engine compartment, go with the 1jz. the 1jz can rev at a higher rpm and sits lower than the 2jz and it will be a little cheaper than a 2jz but a 2jz will give you a little more power and there is a litte more room takin up. All in all i personally would do 2jz

Toyotarx7 08-09-10 10:48 PM

i can do a turn key for you for just under 12k. that include motor, tranny, wiring, labor and custom fabrication. PM me if interested

MK3Brent 08-13-10 08:25 PM

It really depends on your abilities.

My swap is currently under way, but I project it costing around $8k.
But my time in labor is priceless to me. So if you pay someone else, it can easily get as high as 10-14k.

Ive easily spent 18-20k and still going. Car made 650whp 555wtq on q16 stock long block jdm aristo 2jzgte 5 speed trans. Tech 2 swap kit. Easily daily driver. I have a supra now so fd is for sale :) should show up in the fs section soon.

MK3Brent 10-18-12 12:56 PM

Just to update this thread... My previous post quoted a tad low.

I'm in my build $20,000 at this point.

Are you still doing a turn key 2jzgte swap?

ls1japcar 03-11-14 10:10 AM

About 30k in it an still going

rx7socal 03-12-14 12:36 AM

30k for 2jz swap??? And still adding up?

9313BTT 03-12-14 05:59 AM

Sounds about right ^

rx7socal 03-12-14 07:05 AM

Its just like buying the fat pig itself .

ls1japcar 03-12-14 10:33 AM

4l85-e, 2jz gte built bottom end, ported head-264 cams, beehive kit,arp hardware,6766pte,phr manifold,tech2 kit, drive line, stand alone for engine and another for the gm tranny, fuel set up Bosch pumps, ID injectors,e85 ---going to build another motor here soon till then we will see how far I can go with this setup?! Made670 to the wheels @25 psi still need 8.8 tho:/

9313BTT 03-12-14 12:45 PM

Except its in a light weight rx7. I only made 650whp@28 stock long block over a year and a half now. My brother in law has a supra that makes about 40 hp more and we are very close on pump gas.

rx7socal 03-12-14 07:34 PM

Man. But fir extra money? Is it even worthit?

9313BTT 03-12-14 08:42 PM

Depends on how much your money is worth to you. You can buy any car in the price range for 30k but it won't have all the things you'll want in a car I.e power, handling, comfort. My rx7 has been a good value/all around car and it's unique for the price. 20-30k isn't even a lot of money in a grand scheme of doing something like this. Spend 90k on a gtr or 30-60k on a modded supra or 30k for a nsx with 280hp.

ls1japcar 03-13-14 01:04 PM

Absolutely it's worth it! Daily driver/drag/street racing/drifting/road course pretty much an all around car. Loving the over drive and trams break on my set up

YufengCorse 12-07-14 03:36 AM

depends on what you want dude. If you want to go cheap, buy the Ebay 2JZ mount kit from Thailand. I think it's like $300 for the motor and trans mount. Or more if you want to spend a bit more, buy the tech 2 kit. The question is do you just want to make it run? Make lot's of power (500+)? Reliability?

So suppose you want big horse power and reliability, buy a R154 transmission and build it to be bulletproof. Theres a kit from driftmotion for around $750. Or, if you want to go crazy, buy a V160 or V161. Don't even waste your time with a W58. I'm not sure sure about FD since I did this in my FC but there is a bit of a size difference in the 2 transmissions so for one, you might have to cut away trans tunnel and interior to get the shifter to pop out. Next thing you need is a custom driveshaft. The driveshaft should be the least of your expenses though.

Then you have to think about if your drivetrain can handle big power. Might want to get a driveshaft shop halfshaft kit or the pro driveshafts. Also a LSD. KAAZ or OS GIKEN recommended.

In the FC, you can only use the stock intake unless you modify your wheel well according to tech 2. Not sure if this applies to the FD.

I'm not even gonna go into, ECU, and custom harness.

If you want everything stock it's really self explanatory.

A lot to think about when you do it and 12k is a absolute BS number if you ask me. My FC already has 35K-40K into it. https://www.rx7club.com/build-thread...-16-a-1074244/. Hope it can give you some inspiration. It's just a money pot so think it through before you do it and good luck!

Where is everyone finding the 5 speeds trans? All I find is the motor with an auto trans.
