Hey guys, I'm a huge rotary fan and love RX7s. The other day I came across a video where they put a toyota Supra 2JZ motor in a Honda S2000, which I thought was pretty crazy. At the end of the video they showed their next project: a 2JZ Powered FD which really caught my interest because I am a huge Supra fan, well more a fan of their incredible engines. Anyways, I wanted to come on here and see if there are any guys who already have a RX7 with a 2JZ motor. If so, I would really like to hear what they have to say about the whole swap, how much work went into it, the wiring harness, cost, and how they are liking it. I am very interested in doing this as my next project. I know a lot of people swap LS1s into RX7s, but people put those motors in anything! lol.

It's been done before. I'm sure if you search the forums, you can find it.

 

I completely and utterly do not understand this swap. It's been done before once, to my knowledge, by SP engineering, and it ***** the weight balance something awful, and doesn't even fit under the hood. The 2JZ is a giant hunk of iron, I wouldn't suggest putting one in an FD, and even if you do, don't post about it here or you'll just get flamed to high hell.

It's a great motor, but you will most likely get negative feedback from most users here on it.

 

A person by the screen name of Supra7 on teamfc3s.org dropped a 1JZ into an FC, and he loves it.

Personally, I'd think that such a huge piece of iron like mentioned before would drastically affect the weight (I'd probably go with a 4-cylinder as a first choice), but with the feedback he has given, it really makes it sound like a good option.

 

for those of you talking like it is a bad idea to put a real motor (2jz) into the car sound like you may just be scared the weight distribution is not compromised enough to make that much difference

 

It's not just the distribution of the weight that most of us are worried about.

I'd be more supportive of your post but you had to go and put down the rotary ("real motor" my ***).

 

LS1 for the win...

Probably the best engine swap out there.

Works great in Corvettes too.

 

I don't know why you'd want to create so much work for yourself. The LS1 is a proven and tested swap that fits under the stock hood. There is also more aftermarket and hp/$ is much better.

 

yup.. LS1 is an def. an easier swap in all models of RX7, which is why I'd rather see the 2JZ around more often, particulary in a 90 GTU (currently my endeavor). Bumpsteer can be resolved even if the engine is tall and long.
