Tight squeeze!
Attachment 710124 Here it is just resting in the bay. Going to fab up mounts tomorrow. Attachment 710125 yay i'm tired |
Today im going to try and fab up the mounts.
Basically you need to position the motor perfectly and just make them! But getting the motor to the exact right spot can be pretty hard! The absolute key to this step is taking your time and getting it right the first time. On an interesting note, the way the oil pan (rear sump) fits with the subframe of the FC is beautiful. Almost like it was meant to be :D Tight fit about everywhere though! There will be more pics and a progress report later. |
Looking great...Get back on HT! :P

Transmission mount was pretty easy. The engine mounts are a little harder. The current problem I have is that the FC rx7 mounts are too weak and soft for the bigger massively more torquey motor. I can literally flex the rx7 mounts in my hands! JUNK! This leaves the motor too loose when installed. I can actually shake it back and forth a small amount. Unacceptable. So the FC rx7 mounts are very simple. Basically a hockey puck shape with two studs. Im going to have to fab up something more solid (but not so much as the interior gets rattled apart at idle!) MOAR LATER! |
one question...... I've been looking into the radiator i mean fabing mounts are fine but what fan are you going to use? I've been hearing that the stock fan works better than the aftermarkets on jz motors. the question well, request, is if you could put on the stock fan and measure how much room is left. would be greatly appreciated!
THANKS |

All in place!
Used some random polyurethane parts I had and made the engine mounts nice and stiff! Attachment 710126 http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...ounted1jz3.jpg Radiator mounting needs to change: Attachment 710127 Shifter needs to extend 3-4 inch Attachment 710128 Making the mounts was time consuming... I need to buy a plasma cutter ASAP! More later. It's too hot to keep working today. |

THANKS No room for stock fan or even stock radiator mounting. It needs to be moved. I'm using a slim 2800 CFM FAN |
looks like your swap is coming along nicely. you'll have to come to a meet when it actually drives. don't pop your hood though, wouldn't wanna make anyone cry lol.

Extending the harness, about 3.5 feet. Lots more wires left! About 100 total :/
Attachment 710129 Notice the OCD here. I'm soldering and heak shrinking everything (of course!) i'm also cannibalizing a 2jzgte JDM harness I got with another motor. It was already cut and the ecu connectors were smashed so i'm putting the wires to good use. i'm also using the same color wires to extend the harness, taking the OCD to a whole new level :D Should be done with extending the harness in about 3-4 hours :| |
Looks great, who'd you buy your engine through?
How much did you pay for it? Congrats on going down the "Other Road" lol. |
your doing a couple things wrong but i'll help
your don't need to cut the harness!! it will actually leave the ecu in the right location. you just need 5 wires off the 1jz ecu to splice into. the ground, the 2 batt powers(ig power), the battery constant(memory), and start signal if you really want to. evrything else you can use off the 1jz harness is already where it needs to be. email me at condolence187@aol.com formore in depth info. i hope you just built pedastils off of the rx7 subrame and didn't mount the 1jz mounts on an angle. anyways the build looks good keep up the good work.

besides i'm almost done. |
next i need to take the engine back out, finish and paint the mounts then:
* install my shifter extension * thoroughly clean engine * remove oil pan and bang out the dents (yay shipping) * join RX7 charging and starting harness to 1jz motor * Separate cruise and window wiper harness from rx7 harness and run it * modify heater core outlet and inlet to fit * mount radiator + fan and fan wiring * run cooling system, fuel system, intake and charge lines * make custom down pipe to fit stock RX7 exhaust system * have custom drive shaft made * custom clutch hydraulic line * custom power steering lines Probably more i'm forgetting! |
Looking good man. Keep it up!

just saw your thread and i just want to share to you what i have done something diffent from the rest on an FD swap. enjoy
just got it done last week it runs and drive i just need a good paint job Attachment 710130 Attachment 710131 Attachment 710132 Attachment 710133 |
Are you done yet?
why do you work so slow? |
need some help with the wiring! I hooked up the battery constant, ignition switched power and grounds but no power to the injectors or ignitor no spark no fuel etc. I think I need to wire the harness connectors into the RX7 Fuse box... I don't have the supra fuse box!
however it turns over great and the fuel pump is working! TurboII RudeBoy, any help? |

just got it done last week it runs and drive i just need a good paint job Can you post some pics of your engine mounts, tranny mounts, and diff mounts set up? I was just thinking of going this route also with 7m-gte setup...looks more promising after seeing your car. also any setup is greatly appreciated! |
^yeah sure,
are you using the 7m fuse box and powering it that way? |
^Thanks,
I've decide to just go with a 1jz-gte with the R154 tranmission. I think I need some info on wiring it up if it is just a few wires that need to be extended and wired into certain parts. I rather do it myself than spend almost $500 dollars to have someone rewire it. Any wiring info or tricks is greatly appreciated. Sorry if I'm Hi-Jacking your thread. |
