I'm starting a 1jz swap in a 1988 Turbo II FC

Just got the car last week. 1jz engine is on the way and today is rotary removal day :)

I'll try and make this a complete build thread that would help anyone who wants to do the swap. There will be detailed wiring instructions and engine mount templates (maybe, lol)

Here is the car as she sits right now:

Will post again once the engine is out....

Little time with a pressure washer and some simple green goes a long way....

I spy a smudge where the afm is supposed to be.

Do it again!

Sketch_hs 05-27-09 01:28 PM

lol ^^

I'll clean it more once the car is running with a 1jz lol

Next I need to pull harness of the rotary engine... i'll need some parts of it!

mr_4g 05-27-09 03:09 PM

So clean. Should polish the paint with something soft, like the cats.

by chance do you know what exactly wires you need fron the harness?
trying to do mine but dont have a stock harness to work with.

Sketch_hs 05-29-09 10:49 AM

^^

You'll need the plug from the harness that goes to the body

It also goes to the wiper motor, cruise control etc

Then you'll need the wires, plugs and sensors from the coolant temp sending unit for the gauge cluster and the oil pressure sending unit. I think they trace all the way back to that same body connector...

You'll need the complete fuse/starer harness also. It connects to the battery and runs along the side of the engine bay, all the way down the transmission. A lot of important things go through this harness like power for the vehicle, charging system, connection to the starter relay etc.

I'm just getting started in the wiring and don't have all the answers yet.... I'll try to have a wiring guide up sometime in the futures as I wire it up. I'm still waiting for the new engine and wire harness to arrive

ibekinq 05-29-09 02:48 PM

Ok I just thought that you needed more things that that. I have a running car but my ecu harness is a haltech thought you needed more off the main.

I am also waiting on my motor. Jhot is pertty good everyone that I have talk to says you can always count on having the motor to be running from them

Still waiting for the motor so I started doing some interior work... most of the blue stuff removed:

Progress on the interior:

Here is how it started:

Attachment 710114

Strip interior:

Attachment 710115

Parted out a black s5, most are a direct match. The carpet was filthy!

Hand scrub with laundry detergent and pressure wash clean. Took all day to dry out:

Attachment 710116

While it was drying I started cleaning and putting the rear interior back together... yes some parts are still blue, some parts don't interchange because of the s5 power seat belts.

Attachment 710117

Re installed carpet, was kind of a bitch to get it lined up right, but it's good now and it's nice and clean (and smells great!)

Attachment 710118

CLEAN!

Moar later :D

Interior pretty much done for now.... can't wait for the damn swap to arrive so we can get to the good stuff.

Anyways here is the 90% complete interior (seats and steering wheel are probably temporary)

Attachment 710120

Attachment 710121

Got everything really cheap and I think it turned out pretty well :D

im.a.real.vegetarian 06-03-09 06:48 AM

damn im jealous i want my interior black not that ugly blue.

Sketch_hs 06-03-09 10:19 AM

^^ part out a car and swap it over!

It's not really hard. Just time consuming!

clokker 06-05-09 03:37 PM

Interior looks great.
Too bad you didn't wait till the swap was finished before reinstalling it.
Life would have been a lot simpler if you didn't have to work around the dash/seats, etc.

Sketch_hs 06-06-09 01:38 AM

^^ not much to do under the dash. everything can be accessed from the harness by the ECU plugs and the engine harness

Sketch_hs 06-09-09 11:14 PM

ANOTHER delay from engine supplier.
