So I found out this guy has a junkyard and in this junkyard he has a RX4 with 70k miles on it that's been there for 25 years sitting and he won't even sell it as a parts car. I'm so disappointed.
None just called asking around and he said the 1st owner dropped it off there because it was starting to burn oil. It needs a lot of work but it would make a great parts car from what he's told me.

This is not unusual. I was in the situation in my mid-late teens: my "dream" car at the end of the street, sitting in a pile of garbage, rotting since the late '80s. Guy wouldn't sell, no way, no chance. People always think that they will get around to it as the next project, meanwhile that was 30 years ago and the owner is now no longer capable, nor ever was, of taking on such a project.

I think we all have a similar story- Mine was an old guy with a yard full of big block SS cars- Camaro's, Chevelle's, El Camino's, and a couple Corvette's- all in various stages of 'neglect', but complete. Would come out of his front door screaming that nothing was for sale the second you touched the gate. I'm sure they all sat that way until he died. Hell, if someone walked in to my shop and threw the right price, I'd sell.....
My approach for my first RX2 was just being polite. You'll be surprised, how far you can get.
I drove around for months around my town looking for any old rotary, till I came across an RX2 sitting in a front yard rotting. I approached the gentleman, he was a war vet and the car was his late wife's car. Never driving it again since her passing. He said it wasn't for sale, but I went on and on about my plans to restore the car and how cool it was, being surprised that this "punk 20 something" year old, even knew what the car was... his face lit up! He finally agreed to show me the car. I showed genuine appreciation and sheer joy when I got inside it, as it was a true time capsule. Always being polite and patient never pestering him. I guess I won him over. When I bought it back in 95, it had been there untouched since 81.
After a couple of more meetings we settled on $100, with the condition to bring it back when it was running for him to see it. I made good on my promise, went back a year later to find out the gentleman had passed.

That is similar to how I'm getting my RX4! Lady is the original owner and has had it sitting in her garage since '88. I knew her son from work and he knew I was into cars. I let them know how I would restore it (it is actually in great shape but needs some body work / paint) and my plans for it.. Now I'm going to be getting it for the cost of a duplicate title (~$20!).
Keep at it!

Wow great stories gents, I have a similar story myself. While on my year long deployment to Afghanistan back in 2010. My mind started to ponder and wonder on Siraniko's signature bullet. "RX-7 owners come and go, but ol' schoolers last a lifetime."
My first rotary was the 2nd Gen RX7. And I always loved carburetors and how they worked so it hit me. I had to own a a old school mazda. Long story short my Cosmo I bought back in 2011 was a from a lady second owner. When her dad bought it for his grand son, he drove it for like one week. Didn't appreciate it and it stayed parked in their garage/drive way till I got it in 2011.
The lady saw my excitement and enthusiasm towards the car. She sold it for $2500 but I only had a grand on me. She said Kelly looks like you are gonna take good care of the car go ahead and take the car and pay me $100 a month
