Heres a few more pics of the progress.
And yes that is a Lada gearbox on a JC cosmo bellhousing
And yes it is strong enough (I've got a mate who runs one in his speedway stock car behind a 240 ci ford 6 cylinder and still, after two seasons, it hasn't broken.
Why? because I can, and because of the amount of room I don't have to throw away and it puts the gearstick lower and in the right place with no mods
Heaps cheaper than a series 4/5/6 gearbox ($800+)

Also thats a Prostreet 9.6 lb flywheel from CA. http://www.prostreetonline.com/buy/p...s/ps-13-00-ra/
I'm keen on the price and as for the weight of the car (about 1200 - 1400 lbs) I dont see the loss of the inertia a stock 26lbs wheel would provide as being too much of an issue.
But has anyone got any info on this flywheel. All comments welcome.

Can you provide any kind of information regarding your friends car? ie: what kind of numbers its putting out... what are you hoping to be putting out with your engine setup?

Also, can you give some info on the gear box please what kind of gear ratios it has... what car is it out of... etc...

Thanks

Hey Rotored Mini,
The Lada gear box looks similar to Rx box. What model Lada box is it?
We have only one m/d in Trinidad i.e the square shaped Lada.

Not too sure on that one but from what I have found out the box is out of a Samara (model after that one) but the same box was used for 15 - 20 years in all of the models including the Niva 4wd. Of course there are differing ratios within the series but get this they all look identical! The only way to tell them apart (except the obvious 4 speed and 5 speed) is to rotate the input and calculate the 2nd gear ratio. There are about 6 differing models in the series. Its also interchangable with the early Fiat boxes.

Friends car is a purpose built race car on a dirt oval track with heaps of intentional contact so its built like a tank. He races full noise in 3rd and 4th gear for 15 mins nonstop for three to four races every weekend. And he's not very kind to it at all but it still holds up. He's got a 4 speed which are almost faultless but the 5 speed like mine fail a bit in the 5th gear due to a lack of adequate lubrication. This is overcome using auto trans fluid or over filling the box or boring out the oil galleries. And about 260 hp into the box out of a 4 litre 6cyl and the car weighs 1450 kg

As for ratios the one I've got has a 3.5:1 first and a 0.82:1 fifth gear. And a 20t 21.5mm input spline and a rubber donut driveshaft connection (like a BMW) which will definitely get turfed into the bin and replaced with a yoke of some description.
I'm going to feed about 400 hp max into the gearbox and hope it stays together, but the car is only going to weigh 'bout 650 kgs, so the hp going in shouldn't be to much of a problem if I'm nice to it....ha ha we'll see on that one(its only going to smoke two 8 inch tyres......)
but all that aside it only cost me about $50 USD to buy so its as replacable as the tyres themselves (note to self: make it easy to get the gearbox out I think...). Have to wait and see I guess

a bit here and there. Currunently working out which turbo to buy. So far the xs-power turbos off e-bay look good for price but not sure what they are like.
And a heap of steel in the shed and a welder. Working on chassis design at the mo too.

Winzie, hows the mini coming along?

This project is awesome! I have always liked the minis. It would look good if you used the cooper S hood on that thing. Rear wheel drive mini. That thing is going to be just plain dangerous... But in a good way! Weight distribution should be great seeing as it is going to have the IRS from the 3rd gen , also with how short and wide of a wheel base autocrossing in that thing should be a blast! If you can get traction that thing should do an incredible 1/4 mile. Keep up the good work and post as many pics as possible!

All your pics have come through as thumbnails and are a bit small to see.
Have you got it going yet? What computer runs it?
I just got back from Australia so I will be into my chassis this month hopefully.
