thinking of getting a new car.

well i am getting kinda tired of paying around 200 bucks a month for gas, so ai am thinkng of buying a car that gets good gas milage. But what to get. My Girlfriend wants me to sell my RX2. I am kinda thinking about keeping it and buying a 87 or 88 Toyota FX16, or a Toyota MR2 (a first gen), a 85-89 Mazda 323, could get my buddys 88 GTX (but it may need a new transfercase) maybe a 88 323 GT (turbo front wheel drive sedan for those who dont know, but has high miles). maybe a Subaru Justy with 4wd.

Basically I like Mazdas and toyotas, but i am not opposed to other cars, liek 88 + 89 Fiero GT's (the rounded body style) But most importantly i want the car to look good, get good milage, and have options for replacement parts. Let me know what you guy think, any ideas are appreciated. and post pics if ya can. thanks Matt22

I like the gtx's but i have one so im biased. I think you could find a transfer case for not too much. Its just a matter of looking. There was a GT that sold up here, in so so condition for like 800 bux a few weeks ago.

Ah ok probably not an Opel GT then. Not the classic ones anyway as 1973 is the latest they were made. As for unfamiliarity, think of a 2100lbs Corvette Stingray as both cars were designed by the same gentleman.

@kukri: Not available in the US? Maybe the modern ones? As the classics are quite available, if you keep your eyes open.

Lots of opels in the us. Parts are getting hard to get though.

Here is a great site for them.
http://www.opelgt.com/forums/index.php?

If you want something reliable get a toyota pickup as your daily driver.
If you still want to stay with the classic because there more fun. I would
get a vw, camaro, mustang or maybe bmw 2002. I only like the 2002, but at least the
other cars you can buy almost anything you want out of a catalog. I hate it when I have to call Australia for a part.

Fx16 are cool. I think that is another car you would have a hard time finding
parts for though. Not for the motor and trany but silly stuff like ****, side windows, trim, window motors/windings/slids etc....

If you owned a gull wing Mercedes you probably don't care what the part costs.
If the car is going to be old and affordable, I think you should get a something
that has a huge following where you can just call somebody but and get your part cheap. (honda crx, vw, mustangs, camaros, toyota pickups). Who wants to sink $1000k + on parts on a $2000 car when something breaks.
