I got a free RX2 from a friend. Im the second owner . Its been sitting for years, but its complete and needs a rear bumper and thats it. Body is 90%, engine is unknown, tranny is a auto.
54k org miles.

What should I do with it? :-D

Keep it? Restore it? Sell it? Part it?

The value of an RX-2 is in the rust. If the rust isn't bad, it's worth dropping in a 12A or 13B pretty easily, using a 79 or 80 RX-7 trans, and cleaning up the rest of the car. Of course, you might be able to get the original motor running with some points and carb cleaner. Just do a little more checking.

PS, I've got a center console for a manual, if you want to convert it later.

Yep, rust will be the deal breaker. If it is clean with little rust, turbocharge that somnabitch.

I have over a dozen cars and just cant keep this one. The rust is at a minimum. Theres a little bubble in the doors, but it hasent broken through the paint. Its getting pressure washed now...

First of all....DICK (in a good way)
Why does "everybody else" get the "free Rx2's" DAMNIT

Otherwise...kick *** man. If you like rotaries then definatley keep the puppy. The parts are hard to find here in the states but easy as pie in Australia and having parts sent is getting easier. Since you're already in Oregon, you can probably find junkyard parts easier than us SoCal'ers. Plus...the market is still growing for the 'oldschool' cars and anything that is pretty clean, taking into account the prevoiusly mentioned rust situation, is usually worth keeping around a while.

Drive it and enjoy it...a nice bit of Mazda history.

Damn cant keep it.
It has been repainted. The motor was rebuilt around 89. It has surface rust with only one bad spot. There was a nest on the battery tray and it ate a 3" hole. The floor pans are solid, the fenders, qp's, and 90% of the sheet metal is straight and rust free. It needs rust taken care of, paint, and a good drivetrain. It would be a great fixeruper for someone. Oh and I have the original rims. I cant believe what some of this is worth to australians on ebay. Just the grill, rims, and tailights make this car worth serveral hundered...

I dont want to part it. Anyone want a semi cheap RX2 to restore???
I went ahead, knocked down the surface rust and painted it with a sealer.
